"Chen Pi, if you want to laugh, just laugh already..."
Fang Si glanced at Chen Shu beside her. He'd been forcing back a grin this entire time, his face contorted in a way that looked deeply uncomfortable.
"Laugh? Me? I'm heartbroken! Pfft--"
Chen Shu finally couldn't hold it in any longer and burst out laughing. He'd been genuinely disappointed that he hadn't gotten to enter a Dimensional Rift during winter break.
But now? The beasts had come straight to Blue Star.
Door-to-door delivery -- how could he NOT laugh?
"Sis Fang Si, is the Silver Lord really that strong?"
Chen Shu suddenly asked. Fang Si had mentioned earlier that there was a Silver-rank Lord out there.
"What do you think? Dragon Guards of the same rank can't even suppress it!"
Fang Si continued, "But you're different. If your Slime faces the Silver Lord..."
Chen Shu looked over with hopeful anticipation. Did Fang Si really think that highly of him?
"Barring any surprises, it should be able to... feed it!"
"..."
Chen Shu's mouth twitched. Was she seriously cracking jokes right now?
A twenty-meter body wasn't just going to "feed" it -- it was going to be an all-you-can-eat buffet...
"We're mainly here to deal with the regular beasts," Fang Si said solemnly. "If you see the Silver Lord, don't do anything reckless!"
She was terrified that Chen Shu would have a moment of poor judgment and charge in there to throw his life away.
If that happened, Zhang Dali would immediately insist on going to the funeral feast.
The Mutant Thunderbird's speed was incredible. Its butt waggled as it flew, and before long, they'd quietly left the city limits behind.
Thankfully, the Space Fragments hadn't appeared inside the urban area. Otherwise, casualties would've been immediate.
Soon, the two of them arrived at a remote stretch east of Nanjiang City, where a small mountain range rose from the landscape.
Because of the Beast Tide, the mountain residents had all been temporarily evacuated.
"SCREEE!"
Without warning, the Mutant Thunderbird's body lurched to a dead stop.
Its eyes flickered with alarm and uncertainty, as though it had sensed some kind of danger.
The next second, the Thunderbird turned around and flew straight back.
"Holy crap!"
Both riders were stunned. Was this thing really that afraid of dying?
Fang Si patted the bird's back, trying to soothe it. "You don't have to fight. Just stay high up in the sky and fly, that's all!"
The Mutant Thunderbird refused to listen. It stubbornly kept flying toward Nanjiang City.
"Forget it, just let us off!" Fang Si shook her head. She hadn't expected the Mutant Thunderbird to drop the ball at the critical moment.
"No, don't! Without this bird, it's way too dangerous!"
Chen Shu spoke up. The Mutant Thunderbird's burst speed was insane -- on par with a Black Iron-rank contract spirit.
With it around, both their lives had a safety net.
More importantly, without the Mutant Thunderbird, he couldn't drop the nuclear bomb...
"The bird won't listen!" Fang Si said.
Neither of them was the Mutant Thunderbird's master. They couldn't give it orders.
Chen Shu's eyes rolled. Then he let out a long sigh. "Guess today I'll just have to eat some roasted butt."
And with that, he pulled out an actual barbecue grill.
The next second, the Mutant Thunderbird executed an elegant about-face -- its movements smooth as flowing water -- and flew right back toward the beasts.
"That's more like it!"
Chen Shu affectionately patted the bird's head, as though he were measuring something.
Then he muttered to himself, "A urea bag could fit over this head, right?"
The Mutant Thunderbird's entire body shuddered. Streaks of light erupted from its tail feathers, and its speed instantly surged by a massive margin.
"Not bad, not bad!"
Chen Shu nodded approvingly. "Next time I'll go to the bird market and buy a whole flock of female birds -- just to watch you waggle your butt!"
The moment it heard this, the Mutant Thunderbird went wild with excitement, its speed climbing even higher.
Chen Shu smirked. Carrot and stick -- he had the Mutant Thunderbird wrapped around his finger.
"Unbelievable!"
Fang Si gave a thumbs-up. He didn't just dominate people into submission -- he wouldn't even let birds escape!
They moved at blistering speed. Before long, Chen Shu spotted a temporary camp below -- tents of all sizes pitched together, clearly housing the evacuated residents.
Quite a few people looked up and spotted the Mutant Thunderbird.
Dragon Guards had been arriving steadily as reinforcements, which had done a lot to settle everyone's nerves.
The Dragon Guard's strength was deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, after all.
After another twenty minutes of flight, the two arrived at the foot of the mountains.
"Hm?"
Chen Shu immediately spotted the powerful beasts near the summit, and the sight hit him like a wave.
BOOM BOOM BOOM!
Six overwhelmingly powerful Silver-rank contract spirits radiated their auras, the glow of various skills flashing as they tore through countless boulders and trees.
On the backs of two flying contract spirits, two men in black windbreakers bore golden Dragon Guard armbands on their right shoulders.
Both wore grave expressions as they surveyed the beast horde below.
Terrifying bulls with bodies as red as fire rammed and charged endlessly, spouting flames from their mouths.
The one at the front was a full ten meters in size. The twin horns on its head burned like living fire, and it exuded an aura of overwhelming menace.
This was the Silver-rank Lord that even the Dragon Guards feared!
"Let's go -- head for the Space Fragments' location!"
Fang Si appeared to have received orders. She ignored the battlefield entirely and wanted to push deeper into the mountains.
"Wait!"
Chen Shu spoke up, a mysterious glint flickering in his eyes.
Fang Si's heart seized. "Holy crap, what are you planning? Don't tell me you're going to drop the nuke!!"
"No, no. But a battle this spectacular -- how can it go on without me? What kind of man would I be?!"
And with that, Chen Shu summoned the Slime right then and there.
The Slime's enormous body instantly drew every eye on the battlefield!
The Silver Lord's expression turned serious as it stared at that massive yellow sphere. After all, the size difference between them was a full two-to-one.
"More Dragon Guard reinforcements? Could this be a Gold-rank?"
Xu Yi's gaze sharpened, and he fixed his eyes on the Slime.
"Something's off! How is its aura this weak? Does it have some kind of disguise skill?"
The Golden Slime's expression was fierce and resolute. Its gaze locked onto the Silver Lord. Its enormous mouth -- twenty meters across -- opened wide, and it unleashed its "terrifying" roar!
"Gu ji!"
"..."
"..."
The beast horde and both Dragon Guards turned to stare in unison, instantly stunned into silence...
"Holy crap, there wasn't even a shred of stun effect!"
Chen Shu had just used Deterrent Roar. The plan was to have the Slime rush the Silver Lord while it was dazed.
But the gap between them was two full tiers. The Lord had completely immunized itself against the skill's effects.
"Yeah, forget it!"
The next second, the massive yellow sphere vanished. It had been recalled straight into Beast Space.
The two Dragon Guards stared at this sequence of operations -- smooth as flowing water -- and went slack-jawed.
Was this fucker here to do a comedy act?
MOOOO!
The Silver Lord let out a roar, rage burning in its eyes. It had been bluffed by a pile of excrement?!
Over a dozen Black Iron-rank beasts bellowed and charged straight at where the Golden Slime had been.
"Holy crap, I went too far! RUN!"
He didn't even need to give the Mutant Thunderbird orders.
The bird casually spat off to one side, then went full speed, rocketing skyward simultaneously.
Its cowardice was truly peerless -- that was exactly why Xu Xingxing had been comfortable sending the Thunderbird out alone.
The moment the Silver Lord saw them flee, it threw its head back and roared at the sky. Its fury had nowhere to go, so it immediately redirected all of its aggression onto the two Dragon Guards.
In an instant, the beast horde surged forward wave after wave, spewing countless fireballs.
Even Silver-rank contract spirits couldn't tank that head-on. The pressure on both Dragon Guards doubled in a heartbeat.
Dragon Guard Xu Yi couldn't hold back any longer.
"Fuck! What a goddamn shit-stirrer!"
