“Classmate Wu Yaoyao, this is the activity record form. Please sign it.”
When I saw Wu Yaoyao running toward me, I quickly stepped aside, responded, and tried my best to pretend that the two of us were not familiar with each other.
Inside and out, nearly two or three hundred pairs of eyes were all focused on Wu Yaoyao. If I didn’t hurry and get out of the way, I felt like their gazes alone could kill me.
However, usually when I came to the archery club, Wu Yaoyao’s reaction was much gentler than this. Why was she so unusually excited today? Was it because the weather had gotten a bit hotter?
“Tch.” Seeing my reaction, Wu Yaoyao turned her head away, pouted, and let out a faint, almost inaudible click of her tongue.
Hey, I heard that.
But seeing her reaction, I finally understood. She had wanted to take advantage of so many people watching to act a bit more intimate with me. That way, even if nothing was explicitly stated, as long as people saw such a situation, it would be easy for them to embellish it themselves. As rumors spread and got passed along, it would eventually become an established “fact.”
How dangerous. When dealing with Wu Yaoyao, it was impossible to let one’s guard down at all.
“I don’t have time right now. You can sign that form after the exhibition match.” With everyone watching the two of us, and her intentions already seen through by me, Wu Yaoyao couldn’t make too many moves. She could only pout, full of resentment, stomp on my foot, and turn around to walk back to where she had been shooting arrows.
All she needed to do was sign, and then I could casually go through the motions and head back to the student council to report. But now, with Wu Yaoyao sulking and refusing to sign, I could only wait until the exhibition match ended.
From afar, I looked at her stubbornly raised lips and sighed.
“Hello, I’m the captain of the archery club from No. 2 City High School, Lin Gu.”
Just as I was about to find a corner to squat in and play on my phone to pass the time while waiting for Wu Yaoyao to cool off, a boy in archery attire walked up to me.
This guy looked pretty good—fair-skinned and delicate—the kind of screen-worthy appearance that high school girls nowadays liked. Like everyone else here, he was also wearing an archery uniform.
“Oh, hello. I’m a member of the student council from Peony High School, Bai Qiao.” I scratched my head as I replied. I really didn’t dare to say that I was the vice president of the student council after just being treated like that by Wu Yaoyao—it was too embarrassing.
“I see. Then classmate Bai Qiao must also like archery, right?” Lin Gu casually grabbed my hand and shook it enthusiastically.
To be honest, I wasn’t very good at dealing with people who were overly familiar like this, so I could only brace myself and continue the conversation.
“Mm… it’s alright…”
If it weren’t for my position, I wouldn’t have come here at all.
“Oh, come, please sit.” Lin Gu nodded knowingly, then pulled me along, gesturing for me to sit down on the wooden floor.
Seeing how enthusiastic he was, I really couldn’t bring myself to refuse, so I sat down with him.
At the same time, I noticed a few gazes turning toward me. It was two or three unfamiliar girls, fiddling with the bows in their hands while looking over.
Of course, they weren’t looking at me. These girls seemed to be from No. 2 City High School, their expressions full of budding affection—most likely admirers of this handsome Lin Gu.
“Classmate Bai Qiao is also in the second year, right?” Lin Gu seemed not to notice their gazes. After sitting down, he turned his face toward me and continued chatting.
“Mm, yes.”
Since there was someone to talk to, passing the time like this wasn’t bad.
“Oh…” Lin Gu nodded, glanced at Wu Yaoyao not far away who was drawing her bow with a serious expression, and seemed to suddenly think of something. He tapped his hand. “Hey, I remember Classmate Wu Yaoyao is also in the second year. You two wouldn’t happen to be in the same class, would you?”
“No,” I smiled. “I’m not that lucky.”
All the boys in the second year had been hopeful on the day of class assignments. With over a dozen classes, there was always a chance to be placed in the same class as Tang Xin or Wu Yaoyao. But my feelings were the opposite—better not be in the same class as either of them. The farther apart, the better. Ideally, even separated by an entire teaching building.
“That’s true. Anyone in the second year who gets placed in the same class as Wu Yaoyao is indeed quite lucky.” Lin Gu nodded, agreeing with my sentiment.
But by saying that, it meant he liked Wu Yaoyao too, didn’t it?
“But just now, when I saw you come in, Wu Yaoyao seemed very friendly toward you.” Lin Gu’s eyes were full of teasing. “Since you’re not in the same class, you must at least go to and from school together, right?”
“We’re just ordinary classmates, nothing more. Classmate Lin Gu is overthinking it.” I twitched the corner of my mouth, not expecting Lin Gu to be so perceptive—to pick up on something just from that brief moment earlier.
“I remember Classmate Wu Yaoyao lives in the northern part of the city. You two must have chances to walk together after school, right?” Lin Gu pressed on, his eyes full of curiosity.
“No, she lives in the southern part of the city. I’m the one who lives in the north. It’s impossible for us to run into each other on the way to and from school.” I explained patiently.
I was telling the truth. There were two main roads leading to the school—one toward the north, one toward the south. My home was in the north, while Wu Yaoyao usually took the southern route. Today, the reason we had walked together was simply because we happened to meet at the intersection of those two roads—or rather, I had been ambushed by Wu Yaoyao.
As for my relationship with Wu Yaoyao, every detail had to be clarified. Otherwise, rumors would spread, and “three men make a tiger”1 would become a real problem.
“Oh~ I see.” Lin Gu struck his fist into his palm, looking like he completely understood, then joked, “From what I saw earlier, I thought you two had known each other for a long time.”
So he had misunderstood our relationship? I sighed in relief—it was good that everything had been clarified.
At the same time, Wu Yaoyao over there, holding her bow and lifting the hem of her archery outfit, slowly walked toward us.
“Alright, it’s almost my turn over there. I won’t tease Classmate Bai Qiao anymore. See you later.” Seeing Wu Yaoyao approaching, Lin Gu stood up and nodded to me.
“Ah, see you later.”
Lin Gu walked toward the range. Halfway, he encountered Wu Yaoyao and nodded at her. Wu Yaoyao snorted and ignored him, walking straight toward me.
“Hmph!” Wu Yaoyao walked to where I was sitting, pouted, raised her fair foot, and kicked my leg. Then she adjusted her archery outfit and sat down beside me.
Still not over it…
“Classmate Wu Yaoyao, what can I do for you?” I shifted a bit to the side.
“Stop pretending. No one’s looking here.” Wu Yaoyao moved closer to me as well, glared at me, and said irritably.
I looked around and found that indeed no one was paying attention to this corner.
“Even if you wanted to get back at me, there was no need to do it like that, right?” Wu Yaoyao bumped me with her shoulder, pouting.
“Huh?” I was completely confused.
What had I done?
“You don’t know?” Seeing my expression, Wu Yaoyao seemed to understand something.
“Know what?”
“When that guy was handling the equipment just now, he deliberately touched my hand.” Wu Yaoyao said angrily, turning her face toward the range, looking in Lin Gu’s direction, and gritting her teeth.
