Gu WeiJun slumped weakly onto the sofa, clutching his head in his hands, momentarily at a loss for words.
But after witnessing Gu ZhaoChuan’s methods firsthand, HuMing could more or less understand what Gu WeiJun was feeling right now.
No doubt about it—Gu ZhaoChuan currently had everyone wrapped around his finger.

Gu WeiJun slowly shut his eyes. He was no stranger to the backstabbing and political games of great families, but he never imagined he’d been a piece on the board from so long ago.
He gripped his hair tightly, torn and caught in a storm of emotion.
Gu WeiYi turned to HuMing, his voice low.
“So this whole thing… you orchestrated it? From the moment you met to the day you acknowledged each other, you’ve known the truth all along?”
“You could say that. Actually, I even have a piece of evidence that proves there’s something wrong with Gu ZhaoChuan. But it’s not with me right now. I hid it. Originally, I planned to use it the day I expose ZhaoChuan… but it looks like I’ll need to bring it out early.” As he spoke, HuMing took out his phone and sent a message to someone.
Soon after, he looked back up at Gu WeiYi.
“Uncle, everything you heard today—just pretend none of it happened. Shi Zhong and ZhaoChuan still think I don’t know the truth. If they knew, I wouldn’t be alive right now. They both believe I returned to the Gu family because of Second Grandpa. So I’ll just keep going along with that story.”
“But that’s dangerous!” Gu WeiYi frowned, clearly disagreeing with HuMing’s plan.
HuMing simply shook his head, his expression calm as ever.
“Danger means nothing. I did far worse to force Han ShuYi to make a move. If I don’t raise the stakes now, Shi Zhong won’t show his hand.”
“HuMing, things like this aren’t for a child like you to meddle in.” Gu WeiJun’s voice rang out.
His expression had returned to normal, calm and steady, but this time, there was a hard resolve in his eyes—like he had made up his mind.
Seeing that look, Gu WeiYi’s heart skipped a beat.
The last time he saw his older brother like this was when he had to deal with their uncle, who tried to start a rebellion within the family.
But HuMing didn’t back down. He stood there with both hands in his pockets, voice firm.
“Dad, things have come this far—it’s no longer something you or I can control. I didn’t grow up in the Gu family. Most of the time, I only trust my own abilities. Even if this conversation never happened, I still would’ve hunted down the person pulling the strings behind all of this. Mom once said that the Gu family’s greatest strength is its faith in family. Just like you—how even now, you still choose to believe in Gu ZhaoChuan.”
HuMing saw right through Gu WeiJun.
People don’t change their beliefs so easily. Even if DNA confirmed he was the biological son.
Not everyone was like Madam Han. Not everyone was like Gu ZhaoChuan.
Everyone’s different. Everyone has their own motives.
But HuMing wasn’t about to let those personal feelings derail his plans.
That’s why he said it all so plainly.
Then he turned around and walked straight back to his room.
Once again, only the two Gu brothers remained in the living room.
Gu WeiYi slowly looked toward his older brother, only to find him with his head bowed, as if unable to face the truths HuMing had just laid bare.
With a sigh, he spoke, a hint of helplessness in his tone.
“Brother, I know this isn’t an easy thing to make a decision about. But if we don’t handle it carefully, it could spiral out of control. If ZhaoChuan really is Shi Zhong’s pawn, then it means he’s been plotting against us for a very long time. By the time we realize it, saying ‘he’s not that kind of person’ will be too late.”
He figured his older brother still had a father’s love for ZhaoChuan—just like HuMing had said.
And he couldn’t blame him. He had watched ZhaoChuan grow up too. If he could, he wouldn’t want things to end this way either.
So what if the Gu family gained another young master? It didn’t really change anything.
But Gu WeiJun only shook his head, sighing deeply before he finally spoke.
“It’s not ZhaoChuan being the mole that I’m worried about. I’m worried about how QingXia will react when she finds out HuMing is her biological son. Knowing her, she’ll try everything to make it up to him. But when that time comes, Shi Zhong might catch on to what’s really going on. That’s why I think… maybe we really should keep this hidden for now. Just like HuMing said—keep Shi Zhong in the dark.”
“I’m glad you see it that way, Brother. I think HuMing’s the kind of kid who knows what he’s doing. Maybe in situations like this, trusting his judgment might be for the best. As for us, let’s just do our best to take care of everything else.”
The brothers had reached an understanding. It felt like something monumental had just shifted.

The next morning, the Gu family gathered around the table for breakfast. The three who had taken part in last night’s tense conversation acted as if nothing had happened at all.
As he ate, HuMing casually looked at his grandfather and said, “Grandpa, I won’t be home for dinner tonight. Xia Chen invited me over—his sister just got back.”
“Hm? His sister? Are you two close?” The old man had already forgotten about the girl he’d seen HuMing walking home with the other day.
“We’re pretty close. She’s got a bit of a special identity. I’ll introduce her to you at my birthday party.”
“Oh… Oh! Alright, then!”
