Wu Yaoyao’s current state was like that of a child who had been wronged. On the surface, she acted tough, but as soon as someone offered her even a little comfort, her tears would pour out like a broken dam.
Hearing my words, Wu Yaoyao—whose head I had been gently patting—suddenly threw herself into my arms. She wrapped both arms tightly around my waist as her tears streamed down in torrents, soaking a large patch of my school uniform. Her body trembled slightly as she sobbed uncontrollably, wiping her tears again and again.
“Wuu… Bai Qiao, it hurts so much… I’m so scared.”
Her trembling, tearful voice came out in broken fragments.
So the bravery she had shown just now had only been something she forced herself to put up… After all, for a girl who had lived a normal school life for over a decade, how could she possibly remain calm when encountering something like this for the first time?
“Alright, alright, stop crying—you’re not cute at all like this.” I reached out and smoothed her already messy hair. “I’m asking you something.”
At this moment, the three girls behind us also snapped back to their senses. One of them shouted, “Hey, who the hell are you?”
I ignored her and continued asking Wu Yaoyao softly in my arms, “Was it this hand that hit you?”
Wu Yaoyao was still trembling. She lifted her head and nodded. Her eyes, reddened from tears, and her swollen left cheek were heartbreaking to look at.
“Stand over there for a moment. I’ll deal with something first, then you can hug me again, alright?” I gently pressed her shoulders, making her loosen her grip.
Wu Yaoyao seemed to notice the seriousness in my eyes. She let go of my waist, bit her lip, and nodded pitifully.
“Hey! I’m talking to you—”
Smack!
The impatient voice came again from behind, but before she could finish, I spun around suddenly. My right hand cut a perfect arc through the air and landed solidly across her face with all my strength.
The crisp sound of the slap echoed for a long time in the sparsely populated Yugang Park.
The slap came so suddenly that everyone present froze. Even the girl I had hit simply stood there, head tilted, stunned.
“I wasn’t talking to you. Can you shut up?”
I stared coldly at the girl I had slapped. The chill in my voice even surprised myself.
“Bai Qiao…” Wu Yaoyao, probably frightened by the scene, tugged lightly at the corner of my clothes from behind.
Hearing her voice, I turned and smiled at her, brushing aside the strands of hair stuck to her forehead from sweat. “That looks much better.”
“Hitting women—what kind of man does that make you?”
Aside from the girl I had slapped, who was still dazed, another girl spoke up.
“Oh?” Hearing her words, I couldn’t help but smile as I walked toward her at an unhurried pace. “When you were hitting someone just now, your expressions didn’t look like that at all.”
“You—you… what the hell are you trying to do?” Perhaps out of fear, her voice began to tremble slightly.
Smack!
I raised my hand again and struck her hard across the face with the same force as before.
“I don’t want to hear your voice.”
I withdrew my hand and said calmly.
The last remaining girl, seeing this, was too frightened to move. Her body had already begun trembling from fear.
All three of these slender girls were about a head shorter than me. With such a disparity in strength, they had no chance of fighting back.
“If I’m not mistaken, you came here to stand up for Lin Gu, didn’t you?”
I walked up to the last girl, bent down, and stared at her face.
Hearing my words, her fearful expression steadied a bit, as if a sense of righteousness had returned to her side. She spoke indignantly, “This was all that woman Wu Yaoyao’s fault! Just because someone touched her hand, she slapped him in public—who told her to be so full of herself!”
“Heh.” I curled my lips. “Are you so sure Lin Gu didn’t deliberately grab her hand?”
“So many girls like Lin Gu—how could he possibly—” the first girl I had slapped shouted loudly upon hearing our conversation.
Smack!
Before she could finish, I raised my hand again and slapped her across the face once more.
Although she received two slaps, the total of three slaps was evenly distributed among the three of them. Just right.
“Since you trust Lin Gu so much, why don’t we have him come out and explain it to you right now?”
The girl who had been slapped twice sneered after hearing my words. “Stop trying to be clever. Coming here to block Wu Yaoyao today was our own decision. Lin Gu isn’t even here.”
Wu Yaoyao, standing to one side of the pavilion, also froze for a moment upon hearing my words.
Trying to be clever?
Hearing that phrase, I smiled. Then I turned my head and shouted loudly—so loudly that even the surrounding coconut trees could hear:
“Lin Gu, come out. This is already embarrassing enough. If I have to drag you out myself, it’ll be even worse.”
My voice echoed throughout the park.
But my words were like sand falling into the sea—there was no movement nearby.
“Hmph, I told you,” the girl said, covering the cheek I had slapped, mocking what she thought was my failed cleverness.
But before she could finish, a figure slowly emerged from behind a coconut tree not far from the pavilion and began walking toward us.
“…Classmate Bai Qiao, there’s no need to be so harsh toward girls, is there?”
Lin Gu stepped into the pavilion, glanced at the three girls, and wore a complicated expression.
Seeing his face, the three girls were stunned, disbelief written all over them. Wu Yaoyao also looked at me in confusion, as if asking how I had known Lin Gu was here.
“W-why are you here, President?”
The three girls became flustered, looking at Lin Gu in panic.
“Harsh?” I picked up on Lin Gu’s words and narrowed my eyes at him. “Doesn’t classmate Lin Gu know?”
“What does Classmate Bai Qiao mean by that?” Lin Gu spoke as if he were an uninvolved outsider, but the flicker of panic in his eyes had already betrayed him.
I said nothing. Clenching my fist, I charged toward Lin Gu and threw a fierce punch straight at his face.
