HuMing stood silently at the corner, having listened to everything. It was only now that he truly understood—why the Gu family had been through so many disasters.
And also, why their secrets kept leaking.
As one of the most important members of the Gu family, with Gu WeiYi openly under someone else's control, it was no wonder the family had been in constant danger.
Gu WeiJun had been relentlessly searching for the traitor within the household. What he hadn’t expected was that the culprit would be his own younger brother.

Both Gu WeiJun and Gu WeiYi turned toward him, their expressions shifting to shock the moment they saw who it was.
"HuMing? It’s late—why aren’t you asleep?" Gu WeiJun asked, uncertain whether HuMing had overheard their entire conversation. If he had, then what was he doing here now?
"So, the other mole in the Gu family… is you, Uncle WeiYi?"
HuMing turned toward Gu WeiYi.
Gu WeiYi’s gaze locked onto him as well.
Shi Zhong had told him to keep an eye on HuMing. He had never understood why, but now… perhaps HuMing was more dangerous than he’d assumed. Dangerous enough to threaten even Shi Zhong.
Now that HuMing had shown up here, it was clear—he was ready to lay all his cards on the table.
"Then what about you, HuMing?" Gu WeiYi countered, eyes narrowing. "Who are you really? Why did you come to the Gu family out of nowhere? And how did you get that jade pendant belonging to Second Uncle?"
Gu WeiJun stared anxiously at HuMing.
He’d always thought HuMing fit in well with the family. More than that, he’d felt a strange, unexplainable closeness to the boy.
Closer, even, than he’d ever felt to Gu ZhaoChuan.
That inexplicable sense of familiarity—maybe that was why he’d always been drawn to HuMing.
Now, standing face to face with him, Gu WeiJun realized he was at a crossroads. Should he push HuMing away, or… should he let him stay?
But everything hinged on what HuMing said next.
"Uncle," HuMing said slowly, "the pendant really was given to me by Second Grandfather. And he’s known my identity from the beginning. I did hide this from you—but only because I didn’t know about him either. It wasn’t until I fell off the cliff… that he finally appeared to me."
Even Gu WeiYi’s expression changed at that.
If HuMing was telling the truth, it meant he had been unaware of his true identity all along—and that Gu ZhouXing had deliberately withheld the truth about the Gu family.
But why?
What was Gu ZhouXing planning?
Both men fell silent, while HuMing kept scanning the surroundings, wary of any eavesdroppers hiding in the dark.
"Then who are you… really?" Gu WeiJun asked, desperate to know.
HuMing slowly looked up at him.
He wasn’t sure if the man could handle what he was about to say. After all, Gu ZhaoChuan was someone Gu WeiJun had raised himself. If he found out that ZhaoChuan had been the ticking time bomb in the Gu family all along—how would he react?
Still, it had to be said.
Only then would Gu WeiJun begin to truly protect himself.
HuMing plucked a few strands of hair and handed them over.
"I know this is sudden, but… Dad, I’m your real son."
Silence. Utter silence filled the hall.
Gu WeiYi’s brows furrowed deeply, his eyes locked on HuMing’s calm expression. The boy hadn’t even flinched when saying it. It was like he’d already known for a long time.
But the words hit like a bomb, shaking both brothers to the core.
Gu WeiJun’s mouth opened slightly. A thousand thoughts flooded his mind, yet he couldn’t say a single word. One look at HuMing’s eyes, and everything he wanted to say just dissolved.
It was even more shocking than finding out that Gu WeiYi had been under Shi Zhong’s control.
All those years.
Over a decade of raising a son—only to be told he wasn’t yours. And now, this boy who hadn’t been around for long suddenly claimed to be your real child.
And the way he said it—no tears, no emotional breakdown—just a calm, matter-of-fact statement.

Did he doubt HuMing? Even he wasn’t sure. After all, he’d raised Gu ZhaoChuan. He knew the boy’s personality better than anyone—he’d never done anything out of line. Even at school, the praise he received from teachers and classmates was genuine.
He wasn’t like that little devil from the Shi family. How could he be one of Shi Zhong’s people?
Gu WeiJun sank helplessly onto the couch. Inside, he was at war with himself, completely at a loss.
HuMing glanced at the ticking clock on the wall, then turned back to them.
"Dad, I know it’s hard to accept. ZhaoChuan has always played the part of the good son in this family. Who would suspect someone like that of being the traitor? But I want you to know—the one who tried to kill me back then wasn’t some stranger. It was ZhaoChuan. He’s been secretly building a faction of his own…"
"HuMing, there’s no way ZhaoChuan could’ve done that," Gu WeiJun cut in. "With all the internal chaos in the family, I’ve had everyone under constant surveillance. How could he possibly pull off something like that?"
"What about before the chaos? Back when the family was still stable—would you have ever suspected a boy who hadn’t even come of age yet?"
