Ch. 141 - Not a Single One Missing

At nine in the morning fortress time, the rally horn sounded again. Having already prepared, Tianyang quickly picked up his gear and followed Cang Du and the others out of the tent as soon as he heard the signal.

Once they boarded the Falcon vehicle, Han Shu picked up the car radio, cleared his throat, and said, “Listen up, boys. Today, you don’t have any battlefield tasks.”

“Your only task today is to kill as many of those dark scum as you can!”

“Sijian has issued an order to the entire army. Thanks to the efforts of the past few days, we’ve significantly reduced the number of dark creatures and successfully pushed the front line up to the high wall.”

“No matter what, we have to take down that high wall today. I know everyone is tired, so let’s give it one last push. Today, let’s end this war!”

Though Tianyang and the others didn’t respond, their blazing eyes were the strongest reply!

The convoy began to enter the battlefield.

The illuminating flares ascending one by one not only signaled the attack but also provided the fortress soldiers with ample light. These military-grade flares had longer-lasting brightness and wider coverage.

As light filled the sky, the black fog was swiftly dispersed. Looking out from the car window, Tianyang saw that most of the buildings in Wild Valley Town had been leveled.

In the distance, that ring of black walls was faintly visible. Tianyang activated the tactical function of his electronic eye, and the view in front of him zoomed in. He saw that the black wall, woven from plants, was obviously thicker than last time.

The black wall had three additional layers now, arranged in a stepped formation. Between the walls, strange figures started to appear. Goat-faced but agile like monkeys, the mutated beings aimed their biological gun barrels in the direction of the fortress army.

The enigmatic shooters appeared between the layers of walls. Among these shooters were also some creatures with goat-like faces but notably bloated bodies.

These creatures moved awkwardly, struggling like lizards to reach their positions. Once in place, they anchored themselves, and their bellies split open to reveal something that resembled a cannon barrel.

These cannon barrels didn’t look metallic; like the shooters, they were made of bone. A layer of flesh membrane wrapped around them, covered with numerous nerves and blood vessels.

These indescribably terrifying things made Tianyang almost regret zooming in so closely; he could see them far too clearly!

“So they finally brought out their enigmatic gunners.” Han Shu pulled his head back from the car window and set down his binoculars. “They didn’t show themselves before; now they’re finally willing to roll out.”

Tianyang didn’t speak; he just silently took out his Death Knell and began loading it with star essence. A silver glow flowed through each bullet chamber.

Today would undoubtedly be a tough battle!

When they reached the designated position, the vehicle stopped, and the doors opened. Han Shu and the others got out of the car one by one.

In the distance, the regular army had already started to advance.

A mixed formation of three-dimensional armor, armored vehicles, and infantry moved toward the high wall. The fully armed soldiers, relying on the vehicles or armor, formed combat units of seven to ten people and orderly entered the battlefield.

Following the mixed army were the Heart of Elements and the Hunter-class Ascenders, who would provide long-range fire support.

As for the War God class, their task was to protect the two classes of Ascenders in front, ensuring that these *“glass cannons”* weren’t wiped out by the dark creatures.

Today, the Night Walkers wouldn’t operate in independent squads. All personnel were reorganized and reassembled according to the command headquarters’ orders.

Han Shu lit a cigarette, looked at Tianyang and the others, and revealed a set of white teeth. “My order is still the same as before. Get back to the camp by tonight—every single one of you!”

“Dismissed!”

Since Tianyang had joined the battle as part of the War God class, he and Cang Du were naturally assigned the same tasks.

After the dismissal, Tianyang followed Cang Du and soon encountered other War God-class Ascenders.

One of them was Xie Miao, the guy Tianyang had beaten up a few days ago. His expression was extremely unnatural when he saw Tianyang, but perhaps he had received some kind of warning; he only gave a cold snort and looked away without causing trouble.

Another was Kunlan, a cocky guy with flamboyant hair who exuded a wild wolf aura. He raised his middle finger at Tianyang as soon as he saw him.

Tianyang pretended not to see it.

Then there was the masked man who had survived the battle with the Deep Diver in the abyss. He was still wearing that devilish mask, and the eyes behind it remained cold and indifferent.

“Ahem!” Someone gave a low cough—not loud, yet somehow everyone heard it clearly. And that single cough made each of their hearts beat like a war drum.

Including Tianyang, more than a dozen people on the field all looked at him. The man under the gaze of over a dozen pairs of eyes looked to be just in his early thirties.

He was still quite young, with bright eyes and a sunny appearance.

He gently patted his chest. “I’m your temporary commander for this team, so let’s start with introductions. My name is Wang Ge, male, and interested in women. Done.”

After the brief introduction, the man calling himself Wang Ge snapped his fingers and said, “Our mission today is to protect those *”fragile”* ones behind us. Remember, even if you end up dead, don’t let those dark scum get past.”

“Of course, unless I go down first, you won’t have the chance to die anyway.”

With a lazy smile, Wang Ge waved his hand. “Now, follow me.”

Before his words finished, an explosion sounded from the direction of the high wall. Tianyang looked up into the distance and saw a fireball exploding above the high wall.

The battle had begun!

Below the high wall, a black torrent was surging forward—a rotting torrent. They were so ugly, it was nauseating.

Resembling lepers, the Wanderers were no longer satisfied with low gasps and growls; they howled like madmen, scratching the air ahead of them with twisted limbs, taking unsteady steps like a crazed swarm of snakes, or bursting forth like a pot of writhing maggots.

Among this walking black *"plague"* moved Mad Dogs, Shooters, Tree Spirits, and other crazed figures.

The dark creatures spread across the battlefield like a cursed slime, bubbling, churning, and rolling as they surged toward the fortress army.

In the fortress’s ranks, those soldiers relying on armored vehicles or advanced equipment were all tense.

When the command to *“fire”* was received, the soldiers shouted as they raised their rifles, firing physical bullets or star-element beams desperately into the roaring black tide.

Instantly, splashes rose from the black tide, and in mere moments, countless dark creatures had fallen.

Yet as numerous as the splashes were, they were still insignificant compared to the vast tide.

At this time, the advanced equipment and various armored vehicles joined the fray.

The electromagnetic railguns and heavy star-element cannons were the loudest notes in this battle’s symphony; each time they played, swathes of dark creatures fell.

The repeating machine guns and rapid-fire guns set the fast rhythm. When these unbroken notes arose, the black tide seemed to pause.

Cluster missiles and spread cannons were the rhapsody, always releasing their *“passion”* in unexpected places, making it difficult for the black tide to flow smoothly.

Elemental javelins, snowstorms, violent flames, and star-element rain became a symphony, raining judgment on those blasphemous creatures below the high wall and pushing the war symphony toward a crescendo!

Just watching for a short while, Tianyang already forgot to breathe. His blood boiled, and he longed to charge forward and fight valiantly.

“Don’t get too excited, kids.”

Ahead, Commander Wang Ge’s somewhat lazy voice dampened their excitement a bit.

“Those dark scum won’t just sit there and take it; soon we’ll see them up close. That’s when you’ll need to give it your all. For now, stay calm and save your energy.”

As if to confirm Wang Ge’s words, soon, black and red spherical light masses shot up from beyond the high wall. They traced parabolic paths through the sky before descending toward the fortress formation.

At that moment, a massive star-element shield unfolded above the battlefield. When those black and red light spheres hit the shield, they created a series of explosions.

Dozens of fireballs rose one after another, and the shield flickered, then shattered and disappeared.

But soon, another shield opened, blocking the second wave of attacks from the high wall.

Then, the scattered black and red beams joined the assault, and the shooters on the wall and battlefield also began to strike back.

In just the blink of an eye, some of the advanced equipment and armored vehicles had been hit and exploded, and then that black torrent surged into the fortress’s defensive line.

The first to bear the brunt were the soldiers at the forefront.

One young soldier caught off guard, looked out from his helmet, seeing nothing but black in his field of vision.

He cried out and fired, taking down two Wanderers. But a Mad Dog that leapt from the black tide easily pounced on him.

Before he could get up, the Mad Dog bit into his shoulder. Then, pain shot through his limbs, and with just a glance, he was thrown into despair.

Several Wanderers were clinging to his limbs, tearing away at his protective suit and feasting on his fresh flesh.

This young life, like a candle in the wind, quickly vanished in the darkness of this battlefield.

The torrent surged forward, advancing relentlessly, even as it was heavily reduced in the process. Yet by the time it entered Tianyang’s line of sight, there were still many dark creatures charging across the battlefield.

Ahead, an aura was released, and Wang Ge’s entire body radiated with the glow of star energy, instantly drawing the attention of numerous dark creatures.

Still wearing a lazy smile, he pulled out a pair of short blades from his waist, and as star energy poured into them, the lines on the blades began to glow.

Blue arcs of electricity started to dance across the two blades.

Wang Ge looked back, scanning the young faces behind him. “Now, you can go all out.”

He smiled, then dashed forward, and just before he crashed into the black tide, Wang Ge leapt high, his twin blades crossed, and a few hideous heads flew into the air!
