Ch. 108 - Whispers Behind the Door

The Shadow Knight’s strike shattered the stellar heavy artillery, and such power caused the morale of the human camp to plummet.

Especially the Frost Cloud Guard soldiers, whose eyes were filled with deep despair.

Fortunately, at this moment, a powerful aura erupted from the defense line.

Adam!

The Star Essence radiating from him was as intense as a silver flame. The Level 4 captain took the initiative to charge forward, confronting the advancing Shadow Knight.

Faced with the onslaught of silver light, the Shadow Knight raised its rough and heavy shield. The surrounding purple-red mist quickly condensed into a purple shield before the shield.

Adam didn’t dodge; he thrust his longsword into the jaws, severing several of the fine tongues inside.

The Shadow Knight immediately retreated, and a black, gooey substance poured out from the beast beneath it. An angry roar echoed from beneath the helmet.

Swinging its heavy weapon, the Shadow Knight charged again.

While Adam was engaged with this knight, two more Shadow Knights raced in from the left and right sides of the camp.

They looked slightly different, but overall, they were human-beast hybrids, surrounded by misty purple light with a cold and malevolent aura.

The appearance of these knights caused the morale of the human camp to plummet even further.

Just one Shadow Knight had already been a challenge for Adam. Now, with no Level 4 Sublimators left in the camp, things were looking grim!

At this moment, a wind suddenly rose on the battlefield, which quickly transformed into a powerful storm!

An overwhelming amount of pressure appeared on the battlefield, instantly attracting the attention of the two Shadow Knights.

One of the knights turned to look, and in its crimson vision, a sword appeared out of nowhere, floating towards it.

The seemingly light strike, without needing any special defense, might not even crack its helmet.

But the knight suddenly moved away, using the legs of the beast beneath it to push off. The ground caved in where it had been standing, and the knight leaped away.

Thus, the sword struck nothing.

Yet, in the next second, a straight but very fine crack appeared in the ground.

The crack, barely wider than a hair, extended dozens of meters deep into the earth, splitting the entire layer.

If the knight hadn’t moved away, it would likely have been split in half, like the ground!

At this point, Wang Liangyi's figure emerged from the black mist. He casually swung at another Shadow Knight, even though he was far from it, making the action seem pointless.

However, between him and the knight, the dark creatures filling the battlefield nearly simultaneously froze, their bodies shifting and falling apart.

Like mowing grass, the dark creatures’ bodies split apart. Even if some will cages were intact, only half of their bodies remained.

The Shadow Knight raised its heavy shield, the purple mist howling as it formed a barrier.

But all this was shattered in an instant!

The knight’s barrier, shield, and arm holding the shield were all split in two!

The two Shadow Knights finally realized that defeating Wang Liangyi or even just delaying him was extremely difficult with just their own strength.

They also understood that Wang Liangyi’s earlier departure from the camp was just to lure them out of the darkness.

From within the helmets of the Shadow Knights and the jaws of the beast beneath them came threatening roars. They began to charge, the long weapons swirling with dense purple mist, like dragging a ball of purple-red flames.

As they gathered around Wang Liangyi, two balls of purple flames rose, simultaneously attacking the human warrior!

A blinding light and a more intense, explosive wind suddenly lit up the battlefield!

Even from two streets away, Tianyang could see the piercing light cutting through the thick black mist and hear the deep, heavy roar of the wind.

The young man frowned slightly, as the sounds and intense light from the camp indicated that the battle there was extremely fierce.

It seemed Adam’s plan had deviated.

According to the Western man’s plan, Wang Liangyi was supposed to deliberately leave the camp to lure the Shadow Knights out, thus easing Tianyang’s burden.

But Adam didn’t anticipate that while the Shadow Knights did appear, they launched a full-scale attack and their numbers exceeded his expectations.

Tianyang didn’t know the exact pressure the camp was facing now, but he knew that every minute and second were precious.

Without wasting any time, the young man carried the signal tracker and moved through the mist-covered town.

Soon, Tianyang stopped as the tracker indicated that the strange signal interfering with all channels was inside the building ahead.

The small building before him appeared to be some sort of open-access structure. The door had a dark blue plaque with reversed text and a badge.

The glass door was marked with a blue stripe, and upon entering, there was a large hall inside.

On the wall directly opposite the door, there were stains, and the reversed text and badge were somewhat obscured.

In front of the wall was a row of metal cabinets, still retaining their original shape. The cabinets held black instruments.

Most of the screens on these instruments were shattered and damaged, and they were scattered haphazardly, covered in dust.

In front of the cabinets were several chairs, giving the place a layout similar to a business hall in an upper-class storage establishment.

To the right of the hall was a small door leading further inside the building.

The small door was slightly ajar, and Tianyang pushed it open.

The light revealed a corridor, with a carpet still laid out. Of course, after years of neglect, the carpet was soiled and its original color was barely discernible.

At this moment, a faint voice came from deep within the corridor: “... I’m here; someone help me…”

The soft, low murmur, like a whisper, sent shivers down Tianyang’s spine, as if he were being crawled over by a bug in the middle of a deep sleep.

Tianyang composed himself, lowering the gun so that the light from the attachment would only illuminate the area around his feet.

He crouched and moved silently along the wall without windows, advancing like a cat.

After a moment, he stopped, noticing that the carpet ahead had visible signs of being wet. Under the light, the carpet was damp, and Tianyang extended a finger to lightly touch it.

When he withdrew his finger, it was stained with blood!

Looking ahead into the darkness of the corridor, Tianyang’s expression grew serious.

“... So dark, so cold…”

The barely audible voice drifted through the corridor like a ghost’s lament in a graveyard, with a hint of resentment flowing through the words.

Accompanied by the ethereal, ghostly words, a faint but sharp scratching sound came simultaneously.

This reminded Tianyang of the first time he encountered the spreader, who had disguised itself as a woman and used its long, sharp nails to scratch the walls, producing a sound similar to what he heard now.

Finally reaching the end of the corridor, he found a room.

The door was tightly shut. The light revealed that the area below the doorframe was stained with blood. A foul odor, reminiscent of dead rats, wafted from inside, making Tianyang’s stomach churn.

Holding his breath, the young man gently pushed the door open. It wasn’t locked and slowly opened a small gap.

As soon as he opened it, a hand reached out through the gap.

Tianyang was startled and almost fired, but the light shining through the gap revealed it was a severed arm.

The break was bloody and mangled, with even the white bones still attached to the flesh.

Tianyang’s scalp tingled, and he could roughly guess the nature of the world behind the door.

“Is anyone there? I need help…”

The voice from inside the room came again, filled with pleading and desperation, making one want to rush in to rescue.

Tianyang carefully suppressed his impulse, raising his hand to push the door open further.

The light revealed an office-like space inside, with desks and chairs overturned and various unidentifiable instruments scattered on the floor.

The floor, desks, chairs, instruments, and even flower pots were splattered with dark red blood. The stuff seemed not yet congealed, making it look thick and disgusting!

Human body parts were strewn all over the place, like discarded food waste, emitting an unbearable stench.

Near the door, Tianyang saw a head. It had been partially bitten off, and the remaining half was filled with terror.

The eyes were wide, almost popping out, forever frozen in a scene of despair from before death.

Tianyang recognized the face—it was one of the Sublimators sent by Yun Ze to eliminate the interference.

“Where is this? Please, someone help me…”

The voice came from above.

Tianyang held the assault rifle with one hand and reached for the hilt of the Crimson Moon Warblade with the other. He then slowly raised the gun. The light from the attachment projected a beam that climbed the walls, covered with winding bloodstains and fragments of human tissue.

After a moment, the light finally reached the ceiling. As the beam moved, a hand suddenly appeared in the light and quickly retreated back into the darkness…
