Xu Zimo had said all he intended to say. Whether the other party listened or not was her own choice.
“You better explain yourself clearly. Don’t slander Young Master Yan,” Deng Linyu said with a frown.
“Girl, he’s right. Stay away from that Young Master Yan,” the old man known as Grandpa Dao glanced at Xu Zimo, then echoed the warning.
“What’s wrong with all of you? Young Master Yan risked his life and saved our True Martial Sacred Ground. Even if you don’t show gratitude, how can you keep speaking against him?!” Deng Linyu said angrily.
Xu Zimo and Grandpa Dao had no interest in arguing further.
How could they put it? You can never wake someone who’s pretending to sleep. And Deng Linyu was exactly that sort of person, someone who couldn’t be awakened.
Grandpa Dao turned to Xu Zimo and asked, “Where did you come from, young master?”
“From your homeland,” Xu Zimo replied with a smile.
“How is the Immortal-Undying Flower?” Grandpa Dao asked after a moment of thought.
“It’s well. I bear the Heaven’s Will and rule over an era. The Immortal-Undying Flower will wither, but it will bloom again,” Xu Zimo said with a smile.
“That’s good. Very good,” the old man said twice in a row, then added, “In the blink of an eye, the world changes completely. It reminds me of the past.”
“Everything is still fine,” Xu Zimo said with a nod. “It’s only that today’s True Martial Sacred Ground is not what it used to be.”
Grandpa Dao sighed and said nothing more.
At that moment, the black vortex of the True Martial Tribulation Tower appeared once again.
Yan Pingfan walked out, his body covered in wounds. He looked ferocious, flesh torn, blood flowing nonstop, as if he had suffered tremendous injuries.
“Isn’t the trial supposed to temper one’s Dao Heart? How did he end up like this?” Deng Linyu turned to Grandpa Dao. “Grandpa Dao, what did you do? Normally the trial only affects the Dao Heart. How could Young Master Yan be hurt so heavily?”
“Then you should ask him what he did in there,” Grandpa Dao replied with a laugh.
Yan Pingfan waved his hand, not bothering to explain.
“Miss Deng, let’s go. I need to find a place to heal.”
“I have healing pills,” Deng Linyu said quickly.
Just then, Wang Hengzhi arrived with a group, stepping through the air.
“The True Martial Tribulation Tower showed the white trial. Which disciple achieved Saint Sovereign potential?” Wang Hengzhi asked excitedly.
“Father, it was Young Master Yan,” Deng Linyu answered.
“Oh, it was Young Master Yan,” Wang Hengzhi said awkwardly, realizing his excitement had been misplaced. After all, Yan wasn’t a disciple of the True Martial Sacred Ground and would eventually leave.
“Grandpa Dao,” Wang Hengzhi greeted respectfully.
“People from the Ancient Dragon God-Empire came?” the old man asked.
“Yes, but they were driven off by Young Master Yan.”
“These people grow more impatient by the day,” the old man sighed.
At this moment, Wang Hengzhi noticed Xu Zimo.
“This Fellow Daoist has awakened?”
“Sect Master, this is our sect’s Imperial Ancestor,” Xiao An'an whispered.
She and Deng Linyu hadn’t bothered arguing about Xu Zimo’s identity before, but Wang Hengzhi was the sect master. This had to be clarified.
“A-Ancestor…!” Wang Hengzhi stammered as he looked at Xu Zimo.
“Father, don’t believe him. He’s just a fraud,” Deng Linyu said from the side.
“Linyu, step back. This is not your place to speak,” Wang Hengzhi scolded sharply.
Normally he doted on her greatly. His wife had died early, and in her memory he even let Deng Linyu take her mother’s surname. But when it came to sect affairs, he allowed no interference from her.
Deng Linyu felt wronged but stepped back.
“You’re truly our True Martial Sacred Ground’s ancestor?” Wang Hengzhi asked.
“You can ask him,” Xu Zimo said, pointing at Grandpa Dao.
Wang Hengzhi immediately looked to the old man. He might doubt Xu Zimo, but he trusted Grandpa Dao completely. When Wang first joined the sect as a child, Grandpa Dao was already guarding the Tribulation Tower. In both seniority and strength, Grandpa Dao had the authority to confirm such things.
“In a certain sense, he is indeed one of the True Martial Sacred Ground’s ancestors,” the old man said with a smile.
“Grandpa Dao, you…” Deng Linyu had been waiting for Xu Zimo to embarrass himself, but she never expected Grandpa Dao to confirm his identity.
“Child, there’s too much you don’t know. In the vast heavens, you are nothing more than a speck of dust. So my sincere advice to you is do more, see more and talk less,” the old man smiled.
Deng Linyu was scolded thoroughly and could only bow her head.
Wang Hengzhi and the elders, having confirmed Xu Zimo’s identity, immediately knelt.
“Greetings, Imperial Ancestor. This foolish disciple failed to recognize you.”
“Rise. It’s normal that you didn’t know,” Xu Zimo said with a wave.
“If you are truly the ancestor, would you be willing to enter the True Martial Tribulation Tower?” Deng Linyu asked, still unwilling to back down, even while kneeling.
She simply couldn’t see any aura of strength on Xu Zimo. He was even sitting in a wheelchair, pushed by Xiao An'an.
“Linyu, if you keep this up, I’ll send you to the back mountain for confinement!” Wang Hengzhi snapped.
“I actually wanted to enter the tower anyway,” Xu Zimo said thoughtfully. It wasn’t because of Deng Linyu, he simply wished to see what was inside.
“I may enter, yes?” he asked the old man.
Grandpa Dao nodded. “Of course. You may enter any time.”
Xu Zimo smiled and stepped into the black vortex.
Everyone waited for the Tribulation Tower to change color.
Half an hour passed, and there was no reaction at all.
“See? I told you he was fake,” Deng Linyu said smugly. “Not even red. He’s probably just a mortal who can’t cultivate.”
“Senior Sister, my physique was healed by the ancestor,” Xiao An'an said, unable to take it anymore. She felt her senior sister’s bias had reached delusional levels.
“An'an, don’t lie just to defend him,” Deng Linyu said.
At that moment, the Tribulation Tower suddenly trembled.
In an instant, it skipped over the other five colors and went straight to black.
Even black did not seem to be Xu Zimo’s limit. The tower continued to shake, yet black was the highest it could manifest.
After reaching its limit, the black faded, and the tower returned to normal.
The vortex opened.
Xu Zimo walked out unharmed.
“Ancestor, did you see anything?” Wang Hengzhi asked quickly.
Xu Zimo only smiled without answering.
“I’ve heard that those who reach the black level can gain control over the Tribulation Tower,” Wang Hengzhi continued.
“Sect Master Wang, don’t ask. This has nothing to do with you.”
