Ch. 72 - Qingluan

A raging gale ripped apart the layer of clouds as the Luan bird took off, and a green spiritual light surrounded its body. At the same time, an invincible shield formed on its back, which protected Ji Yuenian and Jiao Xiuyu.

Standing at the bird’s back, Jiao Xiuyu stared at the rapidly rolling and retreating clouds indiscriminately.

“Senior Brother Jiao, what's wrong?” Noticing the strangeness, Ji Yuenian asked softly.

With a sigh, he said, “Not only is there no Peak Master at the Eclipsed Moon Peak, but even the General Disciples are unorganized. Only by cultivating to the True Dao Realm can we break out of this cage.”

Ji Yuenian also fell silent after hearing this.

Though he held a special status now, he was without the ability to change peaks for Jiao Xinyu.

His name and peak had already been recorded in the sect’s registry in the Hall of Records. Once the mountain of a disciple was determined, it was extremely difficult to change it.

“I just happen to be going to the Eclipsed Moon Peak.” After a pause he added, “Sixty-two, go straight to the Eclipsed Moon Peak court.”

The Luan bird let out a low neigh, its wings fluttering slightly; the speed of the bird increased by several times, turning into a blue rainbow that penetrated the depths of the sea of clouds.

Eclipsed Moon Peak, the upper court.

“Junior Brother Ji,” Jiao Xiuyu’s eyes turned strange, and he finally asked the doubts he had been holding the whole ride: “Is this “Sixty-two” the name of the blue-feathered Luan bird?”

Ji Yuenian nodded, “The jade talisman it had was numbered “62” among the rest of the blue-feathered Luan birds in the Spirit Beast Peak. Since it was already referred to as such, I haven’t given it another name.”

Hearing his insouciant reply, Jiao Xiuyu’s expression turned even stranger and couldn't help but say, “Junior Brother Ji, I also happen to know two brothers who own spirit birds like this Luan bird. These kinds of birds in the Divine Sea Realm are indispensable to them, therefore, they’re given a name, Junior Brother. If you merely retain the name “Sixty-two”, I’m afraid, it would be too casual.”

Ji Yuenian glanced at the blue-feathered Luan bird resting on the stone platform, and said casually, “Then call it ‘Xiao Qing’.”

“I've seen Senior Brother Ji and Senior Brother Jiao.” A disciple from the Eclipsed Moon Peak’s upper court walked over and after the respectful greetings, he continued with a smile, “Senior Brother Ji's spiritual bird is majestic, quiet like a deep sea, it is really excellent. It's just that among the disciples who have a Luan bird, ten out of eight have named their bird 'Xiao Qing'. So how can they match the distinguished status of Senior Brother Ji?”

Jiao Xiuyu looked at the disciple and asked, “According to this junior brother's words, what should the name of Junior Brother Ji's spirit bird be?”

Although the disciple was extremely respectful in his words, his attitude was neither humble nor arrogant. He cupped his hands towards Ji Yuenian and said, “In my opinion, it should be called ‘Qingluan’, which means that this spirit bird can be like Senior Brother Ji, soaring straight to the Nine Heavens Tower.”

Jiao Xiuyu said with a frown, “Although the Luan bird belongs to the branch bloodline of Qingluan, it is not Qingluan after all.”

“Which is why it's called ‘Qingluan’,” the disciple glanced at Jiao Xiuyu and explained, “Qingluan is a different species, and it is extremely rare. Any blue-feathered Luan bird is likely to be reunited with its ancestors. This blue-feathered Luan bird is now following Senior Brother Ji and one day it will be able to turn into a real Qingluan.”

His words were extremely clever, not only being true to his previous words, but also holding Ji Yuenian with regard leaving Xiuyu speechless.
