Ch. 36 - The Fox and Little Junior Sister

People die when they’re killed, and bleed when stabbed.

But if Su Yan turned his body into water, no blade could hurt him. His power had just jumped a lot.

“Let’s see how strong this new skill really is.”

He tried it many times and found it crazy good. He didn’t just become water to dodge attacks—he could also change shape. Birds, fish, even big animals like tigers.

“I can turn into anything. That’s the power of water.”

When he turned into a bird, he could fly. As a tiger, he was super strong.

“This is amazing. But it’s still just plain water. Fire can beat it. If only it were special cultivation water.”

Normal fire was weak, but there were stronger types like spirit fire or the dangerous Solar Golden Flame. Water had powerful types too—some cold, some deadly.

“If I use a skill point to upgrade this, it might become super strong.”

He smiled, loving his new power.

The little fox stared at him, shocked. A person turning into water?

Su Yan finished and looked at the fox. “The herbs are ready, let’s go back. What are you, anyway? You don’t seem normal.”

The rewards he got, and how shiny the fox looked, didn’t seem like a common animal.

He picked it up and touched its soft fur.

The fox blinked, unsure how to answer. It just felt normal to itself.

“Strange. I’ve seen golden foxes, but this one’s color is too perfect. Never seen that before.”

The fox didn’t say anything. It just leaned into his hand, enjoying the petting.

“Chirp chirp chirp.”

This feels great—don’t stop.

Its eyes sparkled with joy, and it forgot all about missing home.

Su Yan frowned. Even rare foxes shouldn’t look this special.

“For the sect’s safety, we remove smart beasts. The tiger demon and this fox must’ve gotten in by accident. Maybe the back mountain’s barrier is broken. I need to report this.”

With that, he gently placed the fox into the herb basket.

It was noon. The sun was high, and the wind was soft.

Su Yan reached the mountain peak. Lin Qingyue had just finished training and was wiping her sweat when she saw him.

“Senior Brother, you’re back! Did the herb hunt go well?”

“Yeah, pretty smooth. Got a lot this morning.”

He placed the basket on a stone table. The little fox jumped out.

“Huh? Where did this cute thing come from?”

It was her first time seeing it, and she was already in love. The fox looked elegant with shiny fur.

“Such a beautiful color—it looks golden.”

She reached out to pet it.

“Chirp chirp chirp.”

The fox ducked and jumped onto Su Yan’s shoulder.

Lin Qingyue froze when it bared its tiny teeth. It looked wild. What if it bit him?

“Little fox, this is my Junior Sister—don’t be rude.”

Su Yan lifted it off, tapped its head gently, then hugged and petted it.

It didn’t mind the tap and just snuggled into his hand happily.

“It really likes you,” she said, narrowing her eyes.

She liked the fox at first but now that it was all cuddly with him? Her feelings changed.

“Foxes are clever. Is it a girl? Sticking close to men?”

She wasn’t sure. Su Yan was handsome to people, but would a fox care?

“Oh, I forgot. It's not a normal fox. It’s a demon beast. Don’t be fooled by how it looks.”

“What?”

Her eyes widened. This was serious. A demon beast wasn’t like a normal pet—it could think.

She remembered stories about cultivators falling for animal spirits like cat girls or fox girls. Some people even got too close to their beasts…

“This fox…”

She looked closer. As Su Yan petted it, its eyes turned heart-shaped, and it started drooling.

“Ew, it’s drooling…”

She made a face. “Senior Brother, you should get rid of it. Demon beasts are dangerous. If you want a pet, get a safer one.”

She went from loving it to hating it fast. A fox spirit? No thanks.

“Chirp chirp chirp!”

Before Su Yan could reply, the fox snapped at her, glaring.

Watch your mouth, human!

“No snapping—she’s my Junior Sister.”

He tapped the fox again, then turned to Lin. “It’s bonded with me. I’ll keep it for now. It looks silly, but it’s strong. Good for guarding.”

The fox gave Lin Qingyue a smug look.

Trying to kick me out? Nice try.

A wild fox just disrespected her!?

She clenched her fists, clearly annoyed. She didn’t like it, but if Su Yan wanted to keep it, she had to accept it.

“Fine… I’ll come with you.”

She glared coldly at it.

Su Yan blinked. Don’t girls love cute critters? Why’s she miffed?
