"Big idiot?"
That girl looked at Bai Lu with some confusion.
"Yes, big idiot."
Bai Lu smiled gently and nodded with a serious air.
"Sorry, I'm late."
I walked out from around the corner not far from the theater and approached Bai Lu.
Actually, I had arrived a few minutes ago. Hearing my dear little sister discussing me, I deliberately stopped not far away, even expecting that my sister might praise her brother with various complimentary words in front of her friend. But it turned out that in her mind I was a big idiot.
How heartbreaking.
"So this is your brother. Well then, Bai Lu, see you tomorrow?"
Seeing me appear, that girl stuck out her tongue and waved at Bai Lu.
"Yes, see you tomorrow." Bai Lu also raised her hand and waved, then turned around and walked to my side, smiling slightly at the corners of her mouth.
"Big brother."
Her jet-black hair, like a waterfall, blew gently in the breeze. Her lotus-root-like hands held her school bag in front of her. The common school uniform exuded a perfectly fitting beauty on her. Her delicate, fair face was always serene, like a virtuous bride. Such an appearance was enough to make me cast aside the failed rejection from earlier.
"Just now someone was badmouthing me." I looked at Bai Lu.
Even though I was so late, there was no hint of dissatisfaction on her face.
Having such a little sister, I always felt like I must have saved the world in my previous life.
The sky gradually darkened.
The summer nights in this coastal city always blew with a cool sea breeze. The brilliant lights were not yet lit. The time before the clamorous city's revelry began was always the most reassuring.
"Yes, big brother is a big idiot." Bai Lu walked quietly beside me.
After hearing my words, she pursed her lips, revealing a smile, and glanced at me, but didn't deny what she had just said. She opened the bag in her hand and took out a bottle of drink, waving it in front of me.
"Alright then, tell me, how am I an idiot?" I took the drink and also took her bag from her, helping to carry it.
"Hmm... let me guess why big brother is so late today." Bai Lu tapped her chin, making a thoughtful expression. Her eyes, gentle as rippling water, revealed helplessness. "Big brother must have been unable to refuse people again and taken on other people's work, right?"
Hearing Bai Lu's words, my whole body shook.
Indeed, no one knows a brother better than his sister. These words hit more than half the truth, making me not quite dare to look Bai Lu in the eyes. Did I have a face that showed I wasn't good at refusing people?!
"I knew it." Bai Lu looked at my evasive expression and sighed. "Big brother's personality of being such a pushover can easily be deceived by girls, you know?"
My dear little sister, at least leave your brother some face.
"Let's, let's not talk about this."
Having my sore spot prodded, I quickly changed the subject. "Bai Lu, why have you been practicing dance so late these past few days? Do you have a performance coming up?"
"Yes, the day after tomorrow we have a performance in the city center. I have two complimentary performer tickets. Big brother will definitely have time that day, right?" Bai Lu glanced at me.
Although there was a slightly joking threat in her words, this was exactly what made my sister so adorable.
"Yes, I'll definitely have time." I nodded and reached out to pat Bai Lu's head.
The day after tomorrow was Saturday. Usually, I would be asked by various student council departments to help out.
So Bai Lu's words were a reminder that weekends should be for proper rest.
Getting my promise, Bai Lu's face showed a satisfied smile, and her footsteps became lighter.
On this summer night wrapped in cool breezes, everything looked so comfortable.
"Bai Lu must have many people pursuing her at school, right?" Thinking of today's events, I asked Bai Lu a seemingly random question.
Hearing my words, Bai Lu paused, her face reddening. "Why is big brother asking about this?"
"As your brother, I need to understand my little sister's romantic situation." I said righteously.
"...Mm..." Bai Lu stammered for quite a while before spitting out a single word from her cherry lips.
She secretly glanced at me a few times, observing my reaction.
"That's what I thought. After all, my little sister is so beautiful." I nodded as if it were only natural.
Bai Lu blushed and chided, "Big brother is talking nonsense again."
"So does Bai Lu have her eye on any boys?"
"No." Bai Lu looked at me like I was an idiot and shook her head.
"...How did you reject them?" I paused for two seconds and asked this question carefully.
As a big brother, I still had to seek advice from my little sister. How embarrassing.
Hearing this question, my sister's suspicious gaze began to sweep across my face, making me so nervous that cold sweat broke out on my back. I couldn't help but quicken my walking pace slightly, leaving Bai Lu about half a body length behind me, lest she discover something on my face.
Fortunately, Bai Lu didn't ask too many questions. She caught up to my pace and said, "I just said I already had someone I liked."
So this excuse is universally applicable?! And why was I the only one who couldn't think of it?
After silently doubting my own intelligence in my heart, I continued asking my sister, "Then... what if that person still doesn't give up?"
"..." My sister didn't answer me. She clutched her hands, only blushing and not daring to look me in the eyes like a frightened little animal.
What kind of routine is this? Strange about my sister's state, I scratched my head. "Bai Lu?"
"I..." Bai Lu hesitated, glancing at me from time to time.
"Hmm?" This made me even more puzzled. My sister rarely acted this shy.
"I said I had a boyfriend, then showed them big brother's photo..." Bai Lu said this as if using all her strength, her face already red to the base of her neck, still not daring to look at me.
Although I was still very concerned about my sister's state, in my heart right now I was only thinking about one thing.
So this really is the only way?
I felt a bit deflated.
...
The next morning, because it was my turn for cleaning duty, I came to the classroom very early. I came so early that I was the only one in the classroom.
All along the way, my mind kept thinking about Wu Yaoyao's matter.
Dazed and confused, I forgot to eat the breakfast my sister had left on the table, and I even forgot the lunch box she made at home.
"Even if you don't like me now, you'll gradually fall in love with me after you discover my charm." Wu Yaoyao's words from yesterday kept echoing in my mind, leaving me unable to feel at ease. With her personality, troublesome matters would definitely come one after another. Now I could only hope to graduate from this high school smoothly.
"Sigh..." Thinking of the huge group of fans behind Wu Yaoyao, I sighed and clutched my hungry stomach as I lay down on my desk.
Plop.
Just at this moment, a jade-green letter fell out of my drawer.
