Ch. 423 - Blood Butcher

As the small embroidered ball fell from the sky, the entire southern part of the city went into chaos.

People frantically pushed toward the direction where the ball was falling.

Someone was knocked to the ground, and countless others trampled over him without pausing.

“The ball is mine, get out of the way!”

“If anyone dares fight me for the ball, don’t blame me if my blade doesn’t see your face clearly!”

The whole south of the city turned into a marketplace riot, countless people pushing, punching, and fighting.

The ground was full of wailing, and many were even trampled to death.

Finally, when the red embroidered ball landed, a simple-looking young man caught it.

“The ball is mine, I got it!” the young man shouted, raising the red ball high.

Seeing this, the surrounding crowd hesitated.

They wanted to snatch it back, but the City Lord had already warned not to cause chaos, so they didn’t dare act recklessly.

“Friend, how about selling that ball to me? Name your price.”

Someone beside him asked unwillingly.

“Not for sale,” the young man shook his head with a smile, then squeezed through the crowd and walked toward the red-carpeted platform.

Just as he was stepping forward, a figure suddenly darted out from the side and fled into the distance.

The crowd didn’t even get a clear look at his face before the red embroidered ball was stolen.

“Whoever gets the ball, it’s theirs!”

“Yeah, we’ve fought so long, why should he take it so easily?”

Voices like that began to rise around the square.

Once one person broke the rules, the others who were also unwilling to give up began to act without fear.

Spurred on by more and more instigators,

the previously settled crowd descended once more into chaos.

This time it was clearly worse, people drew weapons, fists flew.

All for a single red embroidered ball.

Xu Zimo leaned against the tree and watched it all unfold. He chuckled and said to Liu Changfeng beside him,

“Did you recognize any of those people just now?”

“Who?” Liu Changfeng frowned.

“The one who grabbed the embroidered ball, and the one who first started the chaos,” Xu Zimo asked casually.

Liu Changfeng looked deeply at Xu Zimo, then replied flatly, “I don’t know them.”

Xu Zimo chuckled and asked, “Have you ever heard a story?”

“What story?”

“The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.”

“I don’t get it,” Liu Changfeng shook his head calmly.

Xu Zimo smiled and said nothing more.

As the chaos in the square reached its peak, the entire city was in disorder.

Even bystanders were dragged in and beaten.

Seeing this, Liu Changfeng turned to Xu Zimo and said, “Brother Xu, I think it’s time for me to go.”

“Don’t touch the teleportation array in the square,” Xu Zimo nodded and said suddenly.

Liu Changfeng’s eyes turned cold and deep. He said nothing, just stepped into the air and left.

Watching him go, Xu Zimo muttered thoughtfully, “The smell of blood and sea is getting stronger... what exactly are you?”

While the square remained in turmoil, even the guards stationed around it couldn’t control the situation.

Suddenly, a man covered in blood ran in.

“City Lord! The Sea Serpent Race is attacking! The northern gate is about to fall!”

The man shouted, but the people still fighting for the embroidered ball ignored him completely.

On the high platform, Luo Xiongying squinted his eyes and said calmly, “I already know.”

Just as he spoke, a loud explosion came from the north.

Immediately after, loud booms echoed from the east, west, and south simultaneously.

These explosions finally snapped the townspeople out of their madness. They looked up in shock.

Roaring floodwaters crashed from all directions.

“Luo Xiongying, today is the day Brightsky City falls!”

A voice roared from the horizon.

All around Brightsky City, massive tidal waves rose into the sky.

The sky darkened, clouds gathered above.

Raindrops began to fall, light and steady like a mist.

The waves towered a hundred meters high, completely surrounding the city.

Gale-force winds howled, the storm churned the sea into violent waves, forming a fierce tempest in the sky.

On top of each monstrous wave stood countless figures,

all of them sea serpents.

Each serpent was over a hundred meters long, with black-and-white striped skin like a zebra.

Their heads were oval-shaped, and their scales sparkled brightly in the crashing waves.

Each wave carried dozens of these serpents.

Their forked tongues flicked out, and their green eyes glowed eerily.

Every time they slapped their tails against the water, they sent out new waves.

Thunderous booms mixed with monstrous roars echoed in the air.

“Luo Xiongying, come out and die!”

A voice shouted nearby. A figure stepped into the air and hovered in front of the sea serpents.

He wore black robes. It was Liu Changfeng.

He was the king of these sea serpents.

Luo Xiongying radiated the power of the Imperial Meridian Realm. He looked around without panic.

But the people below were stunned.

“The Sea Serpent Race has invaded! We’re doomed!”

“Everyone, fight with City Lord Luo! There might still be hope!”

“If we die, let’s make them pay!”

Some people froze in place. Others shouted brave words while hiding wherever they could.

“So, you’ve finally come,” Luo Xiongying said to Liu Changfeng with a faint smile. “Your Sea Serpent Race must be desperate, sending a little brat like you.”

“What do you mean?” Liu Changfeng frowned, sensing that Luo Xiongying had expected this.

“I was hoping to catch some bigger fish, but what a shame.”

Luo Xiongying shook his head slightly, then turned to the air beside him and spoke respectfully,

“Elder Wen, I’ll trouble you.”

As he finished speaking, ripples spread through the air.

The space split open, and an old man in blue robes stepped out slowly.

Though no powerful aura radiated from him, the moment he appeared, the whole world fell silent.

“Who are you?” Liu Changfeng frowned.

He had a bad feeling deep in his heart.

“Wen Changgong. You can also call me the Blood Butcher.”

The old man in blue chuckled lightly.

His eyes were very small, and when he smiled, they nearly disappeared.
