Francis pulled a syringe from his pocket and plunged it into his arm.
“HuMing, do you know? This is where I first came ashore. This is where I built my first pier.”
“Back then, I used the Shi family’s influence to secretly run experiments. That’s how it all became what it is now.”
“Everyone here is experimental material. They were meant to be my test subjects.”
“Because I was the one who gave them the right to live.”
“They could have a little common knowledge, live in ignorance on this tiny island. They never lacked food or clothing—only the right to contact the outside world. Isn’t that life enough?”
“But because of you, they’ve begun to taste the fear of the unknown. You, an outsider, trying to overthrow the god of this island.”
From the rainy darkness in the distance, a beam of light seemed to cut through.
Lights were closing in—some from the sky, some from the sea.
HuMing knew they must be reinforcements called by Zero.
Francis’s hidden island would finally shock the world, and everyone would try to strip it bare for resources.
Francis let out a low chuckle, slowly raising his head to meet HuMing’s eyes.
His pupils were bloodshot, like a demon crawling up from hell.
Under the streetlamp, HuMing could see Francis’s muscles swelling, veins bulging under the skin of his arms.
“You said I haven’t changed all these years. But you’re wrong.”
“I won’t die alone. I’ll take every single person on this island with me—”
“Including you!”
A roar tore through the air.
The island’s sirens blared in unison.
Only then did HuMing notice the shattered remains of a remote control at Francis’s feet.
It was the trigger to destroy the entire island. Judging by Francis’s state, he had just injected himself with some kind of enhancement serum.
Before HuMing could even finish the thought, Francis’s punch sent him flying. He tumbled across the ground before skidding to a stop.
The sheer force felt beyond anything human.
Blood filled his mouth, pain radiating from cracked ribs, but HuMing glared back at Francis.
“I’m seriously getting sick of you.”
“Anyone overhearing us would think you were my ex, refusing to let go.”
He grabbed a nearby steel pipe and hurled it. Francis slid across the ground like a predator and closed the distance in an instant.
The punch he threw was heavy enough to split the air.
HuMing braced with both arms, but still staggered back several steps.
It was pure speed and power fused together.
If HuMing was being honest, Francis’s most successful experiment was the drug he’d given himself.
Francis clenched his fists, almost savoring the thrill.
“I thought we were the same kind of people. Turns out, you’re too soft. That’s the difference between us!”
The words had barely left his mouth when HuMing’s fist slammed into his face.
An uppercut followed, flipping Francis over.
The alarm blared on, like the music before the final curtain.
HuMing didn’t stop—he grabbed a wooden stick and brought it down hard.
Francis rolled away, the rain soaking them both as the storm raged on.
The lights in the distance grew brighter.
Ship horns echoed across the water.
On the island, people gathered at the shoreline, straining to see who was coming.
But a voice from the loudspeakers shattered their focus.
“This place will be destroyed soon. Everyone, proceed to Pier Four. Someone will take you away from here.”
In the broadcast station, Bai XingQi dropped the last corpse and turned to HuMin.
HuMin set down the microphone and said:
“We’ll leave with them. We can’t let this place fall into anyone else’s hands.”
HuMin knew all too well how dangerous Francis’s research was.
If it fell into the wrong hands, the whole world would be in trouble.
“What about HuMing?”
“HuMing… he’s never given me a reason to worry.”
That was trust—genuine, unshakable trust. She knew her disciple, and she knew he was making his final choice.
Outside, people began grabbing their belongings, ready to flee.
The sounds of combat rang like rain on banana leaves as HuMing and Francis traded blows in a blur.
A cannon-like punch from HuMing struck Francis in the chest at the same moment Francis’s foot slammed into HuMing’s gut.
They broke apart—Francis crashing into a rusted railing, bolts snapping loose.
He couldn’t believe HuMing could match his enhanced body blow for blow.
He clenched his fist, ready to strike again—
—but then a sharp pain stabbed his heart.
In that instant, HuMing swept his legs out from under him, then dropped his full weight into an elbow strike to the gut.
Francis’s eyes went wide as blood sprayed from his mouth.
Strength drained from his limbs, pain flooding his body tenfold.
His scream came out as a weak moan.
“Zero… Zero… you betrayed me…”
He couldn’t believe the perfect serum he’d created had hidden impurities.
HuMing stood, shaking the rain from his face.
“Fighting you doesn’t even feel like a final boss battle. At least give me three hundred rounds and a motorcycle escape if we’re gonna do this like a movie.”
Francis stared at him, rain lashing his face.
He couldn’t believe his life had ended here.
He still wanted to live—still wanted to create his own world—but the chance was gone.
“HuMing… I’ll curse you… curse you to never get what you want…”
HuMing spat blood at him.
“I got reborn just to relive my youth—and you had to go and ruin it.”
“Do me a favor—don’t come back as a person next time. Be an animal instead.”
With that, HuMing grabbed a nearby shovel and smashed Francis’s skull.
This time, Francis was well and truly dead.
A good protagonist always makes sure the job is finished.
HuMing walked straight to the shore, where a motorcycle was parked.
He didn’t know whose it was, but today, he’d borrow it.
“It’s all over…”
His voice dragged out in the rain.
