Vol. 1 - Ch. 100 - As Long As You're Satisfied

Luo Ruxin stood at the side, watching Ning Yechen with a gleeful smirk, thoroughly enjoying his predicament.

Before the situation could escalate, Yue Qingyou stepped forward and gave a respectful bow. "Madam, those funds were brought from home specifically for the young master."

"Oh, I see…" Luo Ruying didn’t question it further.

She hadn’t asked about Ning Yechen’s money to accuse him of hiding funds. She had simply been curious as to where he had suddenly pulled out such a large sum. In truth, she preferred that he didn’t hand over all his money to her. She didn’t want him to be completely penniless. When out and about, there were always expenses to consider. If he had to ask her for money every time, people might gossip, and she didn’t want that.

"Dear, do you still have any money left?" she asked.

"No!" Ning Yechen answered firmly, as if he were making an oath. He was sure his wife was testing him, making sure he wasn’t secretly keeping any private money.

Luo Ruying rolled her eyes, then took out a small pouch filled with spirit stones and handed it to him. "Then take these. You’ll need them when we’re out."

In Nanli City, where mortals and cultivators coexisted, both spirit stones and traditional gold and silver were common currency and could be freely exchanged. Luo Ruying actually found it wasteful that Ning Yechen had spent all his money just to cut in line for a meal. 

How wealthy did his family have to be to throw money around like this…? Still, with the Qi family now regularly sending a large sum of spirit stones every month, there was more than enough to go around.

"Dear…"

Overwhelmed with emotion, Ning Yechen immediately pulled Luo Ruying into a hug. He had been worried she would scold him for hiding money, but instead, she was concerned that he wouldn’t have enough! What a kind and thoughtful wife…

Luo Ruying’s cheeks flushed. They were still in the middle of a crowded street.

Meanwhile, Luo Ruxin stood to the side, pouting in frustration, itching to insert herself between them. How dare this mortal man publicly hug her sister like that!

"Alright, let’s buy our food quickly and go somewhere else to look around," Luo Ruying said, her face still tinged pink.

Ning Yechen reluctantly let go, but he still held her hand as they made their way to Ye Tianshen’s stall.

"Welcome," Ye Tianshen greeted them with his usual elegance and grace. "What would the esteemed guests like to order?"

Then, with a perfectly polite and professional smile, he added, "We recently introduced some new items—grilled rice cakes, grilled flatbreads, and more. Free samples are available."

"You’re… expanding your menu?" Ning Yechen was momentarily speechless.

Ye Tianshen had originally taken up this job to blend in and maintain a low profile. Yet somehow, he had become the most popular street vendor in the entire city. And now, not only was he running the stall seriously… he was innovating?!

You actually care about running this business? Ning Yechen wanted to ask, but he was at a loss for words.

"Then let’s get two of everything," Luo Ruying said. "Oh, and no spicy seasoning.”

"Understood. Please wait a moment." Ye Tianshen immediately got to work. His movements were a blur, hands moving with precision as if he were performing an art rather than grilling food.

This is an honor, he thought, a sacred duty! The Demon Lord and his family will be eating my food!

He wouldn’t disappoint them. He would put forth one thousand percent of his effort!

Ning Yechen watched from the side, speechless. It’s just barbecue. Why are you acting like it’s a life-or-death battle…?

Luo Ruxin also found herself drawn in by the spectacle. A man as striking as this, with such an air of aloofness, was here… selling grilled food? And his cooking technique was so fast, his focus so intense.

Soon enough, the dishes were ready, presented with the same elegance and grace Ye Tianshen always maintained.

Ning Yechen took the skewers, handed a grilled sausage to Luo Hongye, and passed the rest to Luo Ruying. Luo Ruying, in turn, picked up a grilled rice cake and offered it to Luo Ruxin.

Luo Ruxin wrinkled her nose at the unfamiliar food. She had little interest in mortal food, knowing it often contained impurities. How good could it possibly be? 

However, the enticing aroma and the way her sister looked at her—encouraging, expectant—made her decide to take a bite.

Just one.

As soon as she bit into the soft, chewy rice cake, a rich, slightly sweet flavor filled her mouth. The melted, gooey texture stretched between her lips as she pulled away, and her eyes widened in astonishment. So… so delicious!

She stared down at the rice cake in disbelief. She had never tasted anything like it before. She had severely underestimated mortal cuisine. In just a few bites, she finished the entire thing. Her gaze flickered back to Ye Tianshen, standing behind the grill, his cold expression unwavering as he worked. 

Not only is this mortal good-looking, but his skills are extraordinary… Such a pity that he’s just a mortal.

"Not bad, right?" Luo Ruying asked with a knowing smile.

She knew her sister well. From her reaction alone, it was clear she loved it.

"It’s… passable," Luo Ruxin said stubbornly, refusing to admit the truth.

Luo Ruying just chuckled and passed a skewer of grilled chives to Ning Yechen. "Dear, you should try this too."

Just as Ning Yechen was about to take a bite, Luo Ruxin immediately snatched it from his hand and stuffed it into her mouth. "Mmm! Sister, this one is good too!"

As she chewed, she glanced at Ning Yechen with smug satisfaction. She wouldn’t allow him even a moment of intimacy with her sister!

Ning Yechen merely sighed. There was no point in fighting with a childish little sister-in-law…

But Luo Ruxin wasn’t finished. 

As they continued strolling through the streets, she found every possible excuse to disrupt any moment between him and Luo Ruying. Whenever Luo Ruying tried to feed Ning Yechen something, Luo Ruxin would instantly swoop in and eat it first.  

Even when he tried to feed her, Luo Ruxin would shamelessly exclaim, "Brother-in-law, I want some too!" before stealing it for herself. At one point, when they sat down on a bench to rest, she deliberately wedged herself between them.

Ning Yechen was starting to lose his patience. This little sister-in-law is really pushing it…

But while he held back, Yue Qingyou had had enough. If Luo Ruxin wasn’t the Demon Lord’s sister-in-law, she would have disappeared long ago. Of course, since she was, Yue Qingyou couldn’t do anything drastic…

But she could certainly fight back.

"Madam," she said sweetly, approaching with a bowl of freshly cut fruit. "I just bought some fruit. Would you like to share it with the young master?"

Just as Luo Ruying reached out to take it, Luo Ruxin snatched the entire bowl, tossed her head back, and dumped everything into her mouth.

"Ahh~ Thanks!" Luo Ruxin said with a grin. "How did you know I wanted fruit?"

Yue Qingyou merely smiled. "Oh, no need to thank me. As long as you’re satisfied."

For the first time today, Luo Ruxin felt an odd chill run down her spine.
