In short, every time I finished a glass of wine, Chen Yu would refill it. That bottle in his hand was like a bottomless pit, as if it contained an endless supply of sweet wine. And every single time I emptied my glass, he somehow found a reason I couldn't refuse, convincing me to drink another.
By the end, I felt as though I had become the one trapped inside the wine bottle.
The world began to spin. My neck no longer seemed capable of supporting the weight of my head, which started lolling from side to side. At first, I rested my head on the table. Gradually, even the table wasn't enough.
My head tilted, and I collapsed onto Tang Xin beside me. The scent from her body filled my nose. Like some kind of tranquilizer, it instantly calmed me down.
"Tang Xin... you smell really nice..."
The words slipped out of my mouth. The moment they did, I regretted them.
Oh no.
I might have thought that, but why did I actually say it?! Wait, wait, wait. Was I drunk?!
My head was spinning. It felt like even the floor was trembling beneath me. So this was what being drunk felt like?
Tang Xin stiffened the moment she heard me. Her cheeks immediately turned red, and she didn't dare move.
"Ah... Ah Qiao, I think you're drunk."
Rather than pushing me away, she blushed and carefully reached out to shake my shoulder.
I was drunk?! So this really was what being drunk felt like?!
"I-I'm not drunk... hehe..."
I grinned foolishly.
"Chen Yu, let's... have another one!"
No, no, no!
Why was my mouth saying the exact opposite of what I was thinking?! This was bad! I was desperately trying to leave Tang Xin's shoulder and stop drinking, but instead I kept leaning closer and closer to her.
Stop rubbing against her, you idiot!
"I'm sorry. I didn't realize Bai Qiao's alcohol tolerance was this low."
Chen Yu looked genuinely concerned.
"I-I don't have a low tolerance..."
I declared proudly.
"I can still drink..."
Then I pointed dramatically ahead.
"I can even... walk in a straight line!"
While saying those embarrassingly ridiculous words, I tried with all my strength to stand up. After a great deal of effort, I succeeded in rising— Only to immediately collapse back onto Tang Xin. Dad...At last I understand why you always do so many stupid things after drinking.
My body and my mind had been completely separated by alcohol.
"Sit still. It's dangerous."
Tang Xin's tone carried a trace of reproach. Yet her voice was incredibly gentle. She pulled a napkin from the table and wiped my mouth while I rested against her shoulder.
Tang Xin was definitely angry!
Whenever she showed this kind of gentle expression, I usually ended up suffering horribly afterward.
It was over. Everything was over.
Yet, to my surprise, she didn't tease me at all. Instead, she simply let me lean against her. Then she reached out her pale hand and carefully smoothed my messy hair.
"Is Bai Qiao alright?"
Chen Yu asked cautiously. His face was full of guilt.
"He's fine."
The moment Tang Xin answered, her entire demeanor changed.
Just seconds earlier she had been gentle and warm. Now her eyes were icy. Her voice was cold.
"He just drank too much."
"Haha... that's good..."
Clearly startled by Tang Xin's tone and expression, Chen Yu suddenly sounded awkward.
Tang Xin's shoulder was so soft. Were all girls this soft? I giggled foolishly while breathing in her fragrance. Anyone looking at me right now would definitely think I was some hopeless creep.
I managed to regain a tiny bit of clarity.
Unfortunately, it didn't last long. The spinning sensation returned with full force. Even though my head was resting on Tang Xin's shoulder, it still felt like an earthquake was happening.
The objects before my eyes began splitting into doubles. Two tables. Two bottles. Two Chen Yus. Two Tang Xins. The alcohol was finally catching up with me.
Not good. Very, very not good. A sudden sour sensation rose in my throat. My stomach began churning violently. Everything I'd eaten seemed determined to escape.
"Sorry! Where's the restroom?!"
I suddenly sprang away from Tang Xin and stood up. Looking panicked, I asked Chen Yu.
"Over there! I'll take you!"
Chen Yu immediately jumped to his feet. Rushing over, he draped my arm across his shoulder and helped support me as we hurried toward the restroom.
Tang Xin looked startled by my sudden movement. Her face was filled with worry.
"Haah..."
After emptying what felt like my entire stomach, I finally felt somewhat better. Scooping up a handful of water, I splashed it onto my face. Then I let out a long breath. The dizziness hadn't improved much. But compared to before, I felt significantly better.
"Feeling any better?"
Chen Yu, who had stayed with me the entire time, handed me a tissue.
"Th-thanks..."
I accepted it and nodded.
"A little."
Then I bowed my head slightly.
"Sorry for causing you so much trouble."
Honestly, Chen Yu was a really good person. He hadn't shown the slightest annoyance despite dealing with a drunk mess like me. Instead, he'd patiently helped me all the way to the restroom. He was definitely someone worth befriending.
"Can you walk on your own?"
Chen Yu waved away my thanks.
"I think so—"
"Careful!"
I confidently took a step forward.
Immediately, I missed my footing and nearly face-planted onto the floor.
Thankfully, Chen Yu reacted quickly and grabbed my shoulder before disaster struck.
"Thanks..."
"No problem."
He smiled. Supporting me carefully, Chen Yu led me back to our table and helped me sit down. The moment I sat down, Tang Xin immediately moved closer.
"Ah Qiao, how are you? Are you okay?"
She steadied me in my chair and looked at me anxiously.
"I'm fine..."
I gave her a goofy smile.
"Feeling better..."
"That's good..."
Tang Xin visibly relaxed. Then she reached over and began tidying my clothes. Suddenly, her movements stopped.
"Brother Chen Yu, could you get a cup of hot water?"
She turned toward him.
"Sure."
Chen Yu nodded. Without suspicion, he stood up and walked toward the service counter.
The moment he left, Tang Xin's eyes sharpened. A cold smile appeared on her lips. Then she reached into my pocket. She removed something about the size of a palm and slipped it into her handbag.
What did Tang Xin just take from me? Through my blurry vision, I couldn't see clearly. My phone? Why would she take my phone?
But I no longer had the energy to care. My head felt heavy. Even if someone robbed me right now, I probably wouldn't have the strength to resist.
I shook my head weakly, trying to fling the alcohol out of my brain. But the dizziness only continued to grow stronger.
