“Um… but I might not be free during the day. I still have a lot to take care of. So it would probably have to be tonight.”
Since I’d already agreed, I had accepted my fate. It was ten thousand yuan, after all, worth running around a little.
But still, I figured I should set expectations early, just in case.
“Tonight isn’t a problem,” Tan Han replied. “Yuehan, when was it that you first succeeded in meditating?”
“Hmm… at night,” I answered honestly. “I tried it after my part-time shift. It was already pretty late.”
“Then tonight works perfectly, doesn’t it?”
“…I mean, yeah.” I laughed awkwardly, scratching my cheek.
When she put it like that, it did sound reasonable. And if things went terribly tonight—well, I could always blame it on the hour and make a graceful escape.
Worst case, I just walk away from the ten thousand. (…Though that would hurt.)
“Oh, by the way,” she continued. “You said you’re busy because of your bakery job? If that’s the case, I can speak to the manager for you. Then you can come to the library with me and we can look through some books.”
Her tone alone made it obvious that the store manager adored her. And she clearly had no plans to just sit here all afternoon waiting for me. But, unfortunately for her—
“That might not work. I’m practicing for my flight license this afternoon.”
“Flight license?”
She frowned slightly—an elegant, faint crease between her brows.
She clearly didn’t understand why I was bothering.
“Yeah. You need a license to fly a broom. If you don’t have it, you’re not permitted to fly.”
Not that I could afford a broom yet anyway—but that part I kept to myself.
“I’ve heard of it…” She paused, thoughtful now. “In that case, I suppose it is something worth getting. Can I ask where you’re training?”
“Huh? You want to know because—”
“I’d like to take care of what I can before the semester starts,” she said with a small smile. “I heard things get busy once classes begin.”
“That’s true,” I admitted.
“Then tell me where you’re practicing. I don’t know many people at the Academy yet—having someone familiar around would be nice, don’t you think?”
Ah.
So she had already decided.
“It’s the Witch School Flight Training Club… but there are other clubs too,” I added weakly.
“That one, then,” she concluded smoothly. “Since you don’t have time now—just contact me tonight. I’ll be waiting.”
I watched the elegant young lady leave and then returned to my cleaning.
Talking about the license reminded me that I still hadn’t reviewed the theory section. It should all be common-sense material… hopefully, but failing the written test would be the kind of embarrassment that spreads like wildfire.
Not fun. Not at all.
The afternoon passed quickly. Under Tu Qingxue’s guidance, I reached the point where I could hold a steady low hover and even manage a short straight-line flight.
Not bad progress for now.
When evening finally arrived, I said goodbye to Qingxue and headed out.
I stood at the bus stop and sent Tan Han a message right away. I definitely wasn’t prepared to teach anyone meditation—but when ten thousand yuan is literally knocking on your door, you answer it. If I didn’t, I’d have to officially declare myself an idiot.
She replied almost immediately. She was already waiting for me in the meditation rooms.
Alright. Those, I remembered well enough.
I’d only been there once, sure, but I still remembered which bus to take. No need to even open my phone.
When I arrived, she sent me the room number—and the moment I read it, I knew this was the kind of high-end meditation suite I’d never be able to justify paying for myself.
And, apparently, these rooms didn’t restrict entry by the number of people. As long as you think you’re allowed to be there, you’re allowed to be there.
Rich-people logic.
“Yuehan, over here.”
I turned and spotted her immediately.
Calm expression, immaculate posture—she always looked like she’d stepped out of a magazine spread.
“Coming,” I said, jogging over so she wouldn’t think I’d kept her waiting on purpose.
“Let’s go in.”
She pushed open the door.
And—wow. The difference between this place and the cheap practice rooms I’d used before was… a completely different species of building.
Everything inside radiated a quiet, understated luxury. Even the layout of the room seemed designed to make your breathing slow down without you noticing.
There was a soft incense scent lingering in the air—and a cooler, lighter note from the diffuser by the entrance. The two fragrances layered together cleanly, without clashing.
Of course, the actual meditation incense—the expensive kind used for Witch Meditation—was still sealed. That stuff wasn’t for smelling. If you just wanted scent, you could burn something for ten dollars a box. No need to blow a small fortune on it.
I realized I’d stopped walking. Tan Han noticed instantly. “Why did you stop? Is something wrong?”
“Ah—no, nothing. Let’s get started.” What was I supposed to say—Sorry, I was just busy being shocked by how rich you are? Yeah, no. Absolutely not.
“You seemed nervous,” she said lightly.
“…I mean. A little.”
“Relax,” she said with a small smile. “I’ve done my research these last few days. And after what I learned today, I feel pretty confident about tonight.”
She knelt gracefully and began preparing the incense and tools.
Her motions were practiced—elegant, even.
She might not have done Witch Meditation before, but meditation in general? She was no amateur.
She finished arranging everything and turned toward me.
“Now it’s your turn.” Her tone softened—not demanding, but steady. “I don’t want textbook theory. I can read that myself. I want to hear how you did it. Even if you think your experience was strange, or impossible to repeat—tell me anyway.”
“Uh… okay…” Her eyes held mine—calm and earnest. No pressure, but also somehow a lot of pressure.
I knew my experience probably wasn’t replicable, but if this was what she was paying for…
I took a breath, and I kept the Psi-vision part buried, locked, sealed, never to see the light of day.
“…Alright. Then I’ll start from the beginning. When I tried meditating, I did the same thing—you’re doing now. I lit the incense. And once the assisting magics in the room activated…”
