Vol. 1 - Ch. 88 - A Beautiful Night

Just as Ning Yechen and Luo Ruying were lost in their tender moment, several heads popped out from the other side of the alley, one above the other, peeking intently.

"They kissed! They kissed!"

"The Demon Lord and Madam kissed!"

"This important occasion must be recorded!"

"Quick, quick! Notify the Lady Left Guardian that her plan was a success!"

"The fireworks! Hurry, get the fireworks ready!"

Ye Tianshen and the others were more excited than Ning Yechen himself, their faces full of joy as they barked out orders. How could such a perfect moment not have the accompaniment of fireworks?

Standing with their backs to Luo Ruying, they were perfectly visible to Ning Yechen, who nearly jumped in shock. Why are these guys still secretly following me?!

Ning Yechen immediately glared at his peeping subordinates, his eyes full of menace.

Frightened, they ducked their heads back behind the wall, only to cautiously peek out again moments later.

"Wh-what’s wrong?" Luo Ruying asked in puzzlement when she noticed the hint of panic in Ning Yechen’s expression and the ferocity in his gaze.

Just as she was about to turn her head to follow his gaze, he quickly cupped her face with both hands and redirected her gaze back to him. There was no way he could let her find out about those troublemakers!

Under her puzzled gaze, Ning Yechen remained silent and lowered his head to kiss her soft, cherry-red lips again.

"Mm… Mmm…" Luo Ruying was surprised at first, her body tense, but she gradually relaxed, and her shy, rosy tongue timidly responded to Ning Yechen’s.

At this moment, a streak of light shot into the night sky and exploded into brilliant fireworks that illuminated the dark firmament. The people of Nanli City looked out their windows in curiosity, watching the vibrant display.

"Strange… Fireworks at this hour?"

"Wasn’t there already a fireworks show earlier? Are there two tonight?"

"Well, no matter. Watching it again from home is a treat."

As the colorful fireworks lit up the night one after another, Ning Yechen and Luo Ruying held each other tightly, sharing a passionate kiss. After what felt like an eternity, the two reluctantly parted.

Luo Ruying’s beautiful eyes were filled with rare tenderness and shy affection, making her look even more endearing.

Ning Yechen found himself momentarily entranced until they both noticed, out of the corner of their eyes, that Luo Hongye, who was supposed to be sound asleep in Luo Ruying’s arms, had woken up. The child’s bright eyes blinked curiously as she watched her parents with innocent interest.

When did the child wake up?! Was it because of the fireworks? And… did she see what we just did?!

Luo Ruying’s face burned a deep red as she lowered her head in embarrassment. Being caught by their child during such an intimate moment was utterly mortifying.

"Yeye… y-you’re awake." Ning Yechen smiled awkwardly at Luo Hongye.

"Daddy, Mommy, what were you doing?" the little girl asked innocently, her head tilted in curiosity.

Her question made Luo Ruying’s cheeks flush even more.

"Yeye, Daddy was just playing a game with Mommy," Ning Yechen explained with a serious expression.

He had to come up with something! The child was too young to understand those things.

"A game? I want to play too! I want to play with Daddy and Mommy!" Luo Hongye raised her little hands excitedly.

Ning Yechen and Luo Ruying exchanged a helpless look. Then, smiling warmly, they each kissed one of Luo Hongye’s chubby cheeks.

"Your turn, Yeye~"

Giggling happily, Luo Hongye planted a kiss on both her parents’ cheeks in return.

The family of three walked hand-in-hand back home.

Following between them, Luo Hongye called out in her sweet, babyish voice, "Let’s go. We’re going home~ Going home~"

In the shadows, Ye Tianshen and the others wiped their tear-streaked faces, deeply moved by the scene.

Sniff sniff… This is so wonderful!

The Demon Lord and his wife were so loving. Surely, it wouldn’t be long before a second little prince or princess was born…

Late at night, in the bedroom.

After putting Luo Hongye to sleep, Luo Ruying and Ning Yechen also lay down on the bed. This time, Luo Hongye wasn’t sleeping between them. Instead, she lay nestled in Luo Ruying’s arms.

Without the child separating them, Ning Yechen was free to wrap his arm around Luo Ruying’s waist and pull her close to his chest.

"T-the child is still sleeping… You’d better not try anything strange," Luo Ruying mumbled, her face flushed as she turned her back to him. Despite her shyness, she didn’t push him away.

"Don’t worry, dear. It’s cold tonight, and I just want to hold you while we sleep," Ning Yechen whispered in her ear. "I promise I won’t do anything strange!"

With the romantic atmosphere lingering from earlier, Ning Yechen relished the rare chance to hold her like this. Her back was warm against him, and her faint, delicate fragrance was incredibly soothing. He liked it very much.

Realizing he only wanted to cuddle, Luo Ruying gradually relaxed. Hearing him mention the cold, she even shifted closer, pressing her soft body against his chest. Her warmth should help him stay comfortable…

As she nestled closer, she felt a strange tenderness.

She never imagined she would one day lie in a man’s arms, feeling protected like this.

And the man was a mere mortal…

"My dear… If one day I’m no longer here, promise me you’ll raise Yeye well," she said softly, her fingers gently stroking the sleeping child in her arms. "Let her live as an ordinary child…"

Her voice trembled slightly as she rested her head against Ning Yechen’s chest. Although she loved her current life, the more she loved it, the more afraid she became, afraid that it might all be taken away.

The Heavenly Realm was likely still searching for her and her daughter, and she worried about dragging Ning Yechen into the danger.

Moreover, her life was sustained by an artificial heart, and she had no idea how long it would last. She even considered leaving alone to protect them, but she couldn’t bear to part with her child or their life together.

Sensing her sorrow, Ning Yechen tightened his embrace and said softly, "Dear, don’t let your thoughts wander. I’m here. As long as I’m here, you and our child will be safe. No one will ever hurt you again."

His words sent a gentle tremor through her heart. She smiled secretly, feeling a deep sense of reassurance.

He’s just a mortal, yet he dares to say he’ll protect me, a Heavenly Being, and our child. How ridiculous…

And yet she didn’t dislike it. In fact, she found it endearing. His words were enough for her. Luo Ruying nestled peacefully in Ning Yechen’s arms and gradually drifted off to sleep.

However, not long after, her eyes flew open in a mix of embarrassment and irritation. She glanced back at the still-sleeping Ning Yechen with a pouty glare. Why is this man’s hand so restless even when he’s asleep?!
