Ch. 54 - Back to the Dorm

It was late by the time I sent Quan Xiuzhu off.

Helping someone out of the blue was more draining than I expected, but the chaos was worth it.

I didn’t get to check out her dorm or see if she had roommates. My own huge villa was empty, and honestly, it felt a little lonely.

I did note her address, though—Number 18 of the 22nd District. If I got bored, I could swing by. She didn’t strike me as the outgoing type, though.

Neither was I, really. I was just trying to shake things up in this new life—wandering to unfamiliar places, making a friend on purpose.

Sometimes, you got to face what scares you, or you’ll just stay stuck in your own little bubble.

That said, Quan Xiuzhu wasn’t quite a friend yet. More like a… friend-in-progress? I had some vague, half-formed rule about what counted as a friend. Guess I was just going with the flow.

Our vibe was more… me stirring the pot for kicks. Maybe with time, we’d be actual friends.

But that was for later.

One bummer, though: while Bai Yu had helped me bind my student ID, I had no clue how to do it for someone else. I just told Quan Xiuzhu not to lose hers.

As for her talent awakening… I wasn’t sure if I was imagining it, but something about her seemed different after. Not sure how to pin it down.

It must’ve been some awkward talent she didn’t want to talk about. Or maybe some crazy powerful ability? Either way, it had to be better than my currently useless transcendent knowledge.

Back at my dorm, it was still empty. I really hoped my roommate would show up, maybe brought back by a kind senior like Quan Xiuzhu was. Surprise me.

I didn’t care if they were a guy or a girl—just someone to talk to. Even a quiet type like Quan Xiuzhu would do.

Living alone in this huge villa was starting to feel way too empty.

Back at the villa, Little Work Slave didn’t pop out to greet me. Not surprising—I’d told it to save energy.

Kinda regretted that now.

But with only 300-ish units of mana left, who knew how long it’d last? I pushed the thought aside. Instead of recharging Little Work Slave, I figured I’d top up my phone. Bai Yu’s one-time charge was still going strong—talk about durable.

Too bad my mental strength wasn’t up to par for casually manipulating magic yet.

Thanks to meditation, I could sense my mental energy, but it wasn’t enough to tap into transcendence power.

To really wield transcendence freely, I’d probably need that witch-exclusive meditation method the senior mentioned.

What was the difference between that and the basic meditation theory I’d learned in school? 

In the outside world, meditation techniques were gatekept to block people from transcendence.

Good thing I was in the School of Transcendence. Maybe I could get a head start on transcendence knowledge?

I’d ask the seniors at the bakery tomorrow. They’d probably be happy to clear things up.

Wasn’t I already touching transcendence? I had the Cleaning Charm!

Not exactly the transcendence I’d dreamed of, though.

It was like warming up a pre-made dish. All I need to do was turning on the oven. The spell in my Spell Slot was just a tool, like the senior said. It didn’t mean I’d cracked the real transcendence world.

I wanted to learn the mechanics, feel the wonder—even if it was tedious or boring. At least I’d have chased it, not just settled for being a dumb spell-slinging turret.

Though, lowering my standards a bit, being a badass spell turret wouldn’t suck.

But that needed crazy powerful spells, and a nobody like me—no connections, no cash—wasn’t getting those anytime soon.

A small fry like me got giddy over a Cleaning Charm. Were there any other newbies this easily pleased?

Why’d the academy even pick me for the Witch School?

But thinking that way was wrong. I was someone the academy wanted.

That creep from the Demonspawn School had his eyes on me, didn’t he?

I was competitive. A “natural Psi-visioner,” or whatever fancy term they used. No room for self-doubt.

Nonetheless, I have no cheat codes from transmigration, so if my mindset sucked, I was really screwed.

All I had was the academy-issued phone and some half-baked personal info from the Earthvein system.

Guess that’s kinda like having half a book system?

I plugged in my phone to charge and pulled up my data.

Compared to before, the Spell Slot was new. I couldn’t feel it normally—only saw it in the data. The task update caught me off guard, though.

This thing doubled as a memo pad? Even my bakery gig showed up as a task. Pretty handy, actually.
