In the mirror, Xia Chen slowly lifted his head, staring at his own reflection. Water droplets traced the strands of his hair before falling into the sink.
But unlike before, there was no playful grin on his face—only a dark, stormy expression.
His hands gripped the edges of the sink tightly, and his gaze had become sharp, piercing.
After witnessing his father's death with his own eyes, Xia Chen had undergone a complete transformation.

Footsteps approached from behind. Xia Chen grabbed a paper towel and wiped his face. But the moment he saw who had arrived, his eyes narrowed sharply. He turned around.
It was HuMing.
The two girls in the hospital room had asked to speak privately, and HuMing hadn’t intended to disturb them. Besides, he wanted to speak with Xia Chen, to ask what he planned to do next.
If Xia Chen still had no intention of managing the Xia family, then HuMing would bring others into the picture.
At that point, he’d take full control of the entire situation.
But deep down, HuMing still hoped Xia Chen would step up and take charge.
After all, Uncle Xia wasn’t truly dead—not yet. They were all waiting to see just how far Xia Chen could grow.

"Xia Chen, can your body still hold up? You should rest. I’m not joking," HuMing said as soon as he saw Xia Chen’s state—he could tell the boy hadn’t slept at all last night.

But Xia Chen didn’t reply. He stared straight at HuMing, as if he had something important to say.
And when their eyes met, HuMing suddenly realized—this boy had noticed something.

"HuMing. You knew the truth behind what happened last night, didn’t you?"
Though it was phrased as a question, his tone made it clear he was certain.
"And why would you ask that?"
"I already thought something was off. Why would my dad reach out to you directly? And why were you telling me such strange things—like how I’d have to take over the Xia family someday? Even weirder, my dad said the same thing. You two definitely talked. Right?"
Right now, Xia Chen was desperate to uncover the truth. He wanted to drag the people behind all this out into the light and erase them from the world.
It was hard to believe this was the same Xia Chen from before, the one always acting like a carefree fool.
The “death” of Xia GaoWu had changed him. Even his personality had shifted completely.

"I do. But I’m not telling you."
"Why the hell not?!" Xia Chen grabbed HuMing by the collar and slammed him against the wall.
To HuMing, the fury in Xia Chen’s eyes felt more like helpless rage.

"Xia Chen, take a good look at yourself in the mirror," HuMing said calmly, unshaken by Xia Chen’s aggression.
Xia Chen stiffly turned his head.
In the mirror, his eyes blazed with fury. A fire called revenge burned wildly within them.
"If I tell you everything, it would mean you’re already qualified to know the whole truth. But right now, you can’t even control yourself. Telling you would only send you to your death. Xia XiaoXi’s already lost her father. Do you want her to lose you too?"
The mention of Xia XiaoXi made Xia Chen freeze on the spot.
His mind had been consumed with revenge—but he’d forgotten that his little sister was still in that hospital room.
He remembered the way she’d sobbed uncontrollably when their father passed, and how his heart had nearly shattered. If something happened to him too, she’d be all alone.
What kind of person would XiaoXi become then?
He didn’t dare imagine it. He was afraid he’d break down completely.
His grip on HuMing loosened, and he staggered back until he slumped against the sink.
"I can’t avenge Dad. I can’t even stop my sister from worrying. What the hell am I…"
His fist slammed against the sink. He gritted his teeth, anguish all over his face.
He hated how powerless he was.
"Xia Chen, I’m giving you two options. One: I find someone to manage the Xia family until you’re of age. Then we hand it over to you. Two: I find someone to assist you while you learn to manage it yourself. But you need to start handling Xia family affairs immediately. And I’ll tell you this: there are traitors in your family. If you don’t find them, your family will never be safe."
HuMing didn’t sugarcoat anything—he laid out the road ahead.
He wanted Xia Chen to make a choice. It was what Xia GaoWu would have wanted too.
Xia Chen didn’t hesitate.
He lifted his head and stared at HuMing with burning determination.
"I’ll manage the Xia family myself. If that’s what Dad wanted me to do—then I’ll do it!"
His fists clenched, and his expression was firm, resolute.
