The voice Tang Xin emitted was warm like cotton—sweet enough to sicken even the birds outside the window to death. But to my ears, it sounded like a cold wind blowing from Siberia. My whole body trembled, my hair stood on end, and I didn't dare move.
"...What is this question about, President?"
I swallowed and the smile I forced onto my face probably looked uglier than a ghost's. Stay calm, stay calm I kept saying to myself inwardly.
"Hehe, Vice President, why so nervous?" Tang Xin's smile was simply like a touch of honey in warm sunlight, striking straight at my soul.
It was hair-raising.
Tang Xin's hands that had been massaging my shoulders stopped.
Just as I breathed a sigh of relief, my neck suddenly felt cool. Her boneless hands that had just stopped gently wrapped around my neck. Her face, which was already very close to me, leaned directly against me, pressing against my ear through my hair. The unique fragrance of a young girl instantly rushed to the tip of my nose.
Tang Xin's sudden movement made my body stiffen like a drought-stricken carp. My brain had completely turned to stone.
What act was she playing now?!
"Vice President still hasn't answered my question." Tang Xin's warm breath sprayed on my face. "What do you think about love letters?"
How am I supposed to speak in this state?! And if someone suddenly came in right now, I would die on the spot! Die in the arms of this femme fatale!
History has repeatedly told us that we absolutely cannot trust anyone who is beautiful. Survival programs have said that in the wild you can't eat brightly colored wild fruits and you can't touch colorful insects. Because their beautiful appearance is their natural camouflage, biology's perfect evolution. They wait until you're infatuated with their appearance, then devour you in one gulp.
Knock knock.
Just as I was using evolutionary theory to convince myself to calm down a bit, the sound of knocking came from the student council room door.
Gasp, gasp. The knocking sound directly drained all the oxygen from my stomach. I had to breathe heavily to avoid fainting.
"Pres-President...?" I trembled and lightly tapped the hand she had wrapped around my neck, signaling her to leave quickly.
But I didn't see the cunning smile on her lips at all.
"You mean hug tighter? Okay~" As Tang Xin spoke, the force in her hands increased several degrees, almost hugging me to suffocation, leaving me unable to say a word.
"Come in." Tang Xin raised her voice slightly and called toward the door, signaling the person knocking to enter.
Her action nearly scared me to the point of wetting myself. My head struggled desperately, wanting to cover my face at the last moment.
But it was too late.
"Tang Xin, I—" The male student who knocked and entered probably didn't expect such a scene either. Looking at the two of us, he froze in place like a broken wooden post.
He looked twice at Tang Xin, who was smiling sweetly, then shifted his gaze to me. Our eyes met, staring at each other face to face.
Ah, nothing matters anymore. I just want to die. I had already given up struggling, lying powerlessly in Tang Xin's arms.
My posture probably looked like Stephen Hawking.
If you can't resist, then enjoy it—this phrase was truly the supreme truth in a certain sense.
"Ah, that, that, I didn't know, uh, sorry, I interrupted."
The male student standing at the door finally reacted after a long while. His mouth spoke incoherent words, and the expression on his face was quite spectacular. After speaking, he bowed to us, forgot to even close the door, and ran away as if fleeing.
Tang Xin slowly released my neck, looked at the doorway, and her lips showed a smile as if she'd solved a troublesome matter. She returned to her own desk, pulled out an envelope, tore it up, and threw it into the trash can in one motion.
At this point, I completely understood what had happened. As expected, she was a woman full of scheming.
"Didn't you think about my personal safety at all?" I glanced at her and moved my neck. The remnant of Tang Xin's scent on the part she had embraced still made my face slightly heat up.
This detestable woman had used me as a shield again.
"I'll light incense for you." Tang Xin picked up her coffee cup again and took a sip. Her tongue seductively licked her lips, but her mouth spoke incredibly excessive words.
Why did I ever get involved with her in the first place? Thinking this, I secretly punched my own thigh.
"You still haven't answered me, that question just now."
"Which one?"
"The one about love letters."
After knowing that question wasn't directed at me, my heart calmed down quite a bit.
"This represents someone's entire courage. Isn't this too much?" I pointed at the envelope she had just torn up in the trash can.
Tearing it up directly was too much. She should at least properly reject them. But thinking of Wu Yaoyao yesterday with tears streaming down her face, I felt a bit guilty.
"The result is the same either way. Isn't it better to save some energy? If you received twenty-five letters a month, you'd understand me." Tang Xin said, tapping her head with her finger, her face showing helplessness. Then suddenly her tone shifted, full of mockery. "Oh right, how could our Vice President possibly receive love letters? Asking you to understand my feelings is probably asking too much."
After speaking, her expression even carried a look of affected regret.
I did receive one though?! I was confessed to yesterday, and there's still a letter in my bag today! You awful woman, stop looking down on people!
Although I really wanted to say this to Tang Xin, reason stopped me.
"After all, besides me, which girl would have such poor taste?" Tang Xin blinked her azure eyes at me.
In any case, don't believe a single character spoken by this viper-incarnate white-haired woman. I pursed my lips and didn't respond to her words.
"Alright, today's work is done. I'll leave the remaining work to you." Tang Xin walked over, bent down, and helped straighten my collar. Her exquisite face was less than five centimeters from mine.
"Pushing work onto me again?" I pouted, trying my best to emanate a dissatisfied aura. Her unguarded neckline revealed a large expanse of spring scenery, leaving my gaze nowhere to rest.
"There's a dinner party at home tonight. I'm helpless too. This is today's reward, okay~" Tang Xin sighed gently and finished speaking softly. Without waiting for any reaction from me, she walked out of the student council room like the wind.
This detestable woman was always like this, too good at using her own advantages—cough, I mean too despicable. Making me do two people's work by myself every single time.
I took a deep breath to calm myself down. I felt the letter in my bag.
I stood up and closed the door.
I checked the time. The disciplinary committee members wouldn't return from patrol this quickly.
I wiped my sweaty palms and carefully took out the letter from my desk drawer today from my bag.
Yes, the style of this envelope with its rich traditional aesthetic was absolutely not Wu Yaoyao's. After repeated observation, I reached this conclusion.
I furtively took out the paper knife like a thief and cut open this letter along the edge.
I reached in and pulled out the letter paper inside. The paper was slightly yellow, and the material didn't look like something that could be bought at an ordinary stationery store.
I unfolded the letter paper. Beautiful handwriting comparable to a calligraphy competition leaped off of the page.
"Classmate Bai Qiao:
If you have time after school, could you come to the Street Heart Café? Ning Yi."
