“Linked?” I frowned, confused.
Hadn’t I already registered my info earlier? Wasn’t that enough?
“Yes, linked—and not just to your personal details. I can see you’re confused. Let me explain.”
She took the student ID from my hand and placed it in front of me. “This ‘linking’ happens on a transcendent level—it’s about syncing data. Do you know what this card is made of or what kind of energy flows through it?”
“No clue,” I admitted.
“It’s crafted from the residual branches of the Earthvein,” she said. “That’s why this material can stably hold Earthvein energy. The Earthvein is a force that runs through the entire world, and what makes it special is its incredible adaptability. It can carry almost anything—transcendent energy, fragments of history, or even vast amounts of data and information.”
She cleared her throat and continued. “When you sync with Earthvein energy and decode it using a special method, it translates into text you can understand. The accuracy of that translation is practically flawless.”
With that, Bai Yu pulled out her phone. “And this phone the academy gave you? It’s the tool that deciphers the information stored in Earthvein energy.”
I stared at her, trying to wrap my head around everything. It was a lot to process, especially since I had zero background knowledge to work with. I just sat there, soaking up her explanation like a sponge.

“Did you get all that?” she asked.
“Sort of?” I admitted, my voice unsure.
She waved it off. “No worries if you didn’t. It’s not critical. All you really need to know is that once your student ID is linked, you can use your phone to check your personal info—kind of like pulling up a character stat screen in a video game.”
“Oh! That I get!” I perked up, excitement bubbling up.
It was like a system! Not some overpowered cheat-code kind, sure, but it still tracked my stats.
That alone was insane. Had the Witch School really managed to pull this off? I was already getting excited about life here.
“Glad you’re on board,” Bai Yu said. “That game analogy was just to help you understand. Now, let’s move on to the linking process. Normally, your assigned teacher would handle it later, but it’s pretty simple. I can do it right now.”
“How? How does it work? Tell me—quick!” I leaned in, putting on my best pleading tone, half-hoping Bai Yu would humor me.

With that, she grabbed my student ID and pressed it gently against my forehead.
I froze, instantly dropping my playful act, watching her work in silence.

“Got it. I’ll keep it safe,” I said with a firm nod. Sure, I was confident I could track it down if it ever went missing, but that would still be a hassle.
“Oh, Sister Bai!” I scooted closer, eyes shining with excitement. “How do I use the phone to check my info like you mentioned? Tell me, please!”
This feature was way too cool! Plus, I was dying to see what my data looked like.
“Alright, alright, I can’t handle you when you get like this,” Bai Yu said with a playful groan, clearly flustered by my enthusiasm. “You weren’t this clingy before, you know.”
“So, do you like the old me or the new me better? I’m just showing my true colors now,” I teased, grinning as I held up my phone, waiting for her to show me how it worked.
“Both, I guess…” Bai Yu mumbled, dodging the question with a shrug.
Truthfully, she preferred the current Yuehan—everything from the new vibe to the looks was right up her alley. Of course, that was built on the bond they’d already formed over time. Without that, any “liking” would just be shallow attraction.
“Anyway,” she continued, brushing past the topic, “just place the student ID on the back of your phone. A prompt will pop up. Tap it, and you’re in. I’d recommend getting a phone case, though. Slip the ID between the phone and the case—it keeps it handy and safe.”
“Thanks for the tip! I’ll think about it,” I replied, already eager to test it out. I pressed the student ID to the back of my phone, and sure enough, a notification appeared.
I tapped it, and a sleek little screen popped up with my info.
