Ch. 517 - Inn of Good and Evil

Xu Zimo was slightly stunned.

The inn’s front door was open, but from the outside, it looked like a void, nothing could be seen inside.

For the good, seeing it was a chance to rise to the heavens.

For the wicked, it was a terrifying omen, something to avoid at all costs.

Xu Zimo had heard this story in his past life. But he had never seen the inn himself.

He glanced at the flag swaying in the cold wind, then stepped into the inn.

The inn wasn’t large. Inside, there was only one table, with four chairs around it.

Next to it was a burning stove, blazing with bright flames.

The stove was heating some water.

But the water wasn’t in any kind of container, it floated midair, boiling above the fire.

When Xu Zimo stared at the stove, a pair of eyes appeared on it.

The eyes glared at him and said, “What are you looking at? Never seen such a handsome pot before?”

Xu Zimo chuckled softly.

Aside from the stove, the walls of the inn were lined with many paintings.

He glanced over them. Most of the paintings depicted stories related to the Inn of Good and Evil.

They were probably drawn by people from the Primordial Heartlands, full of fantastical elements.

At the front of the inn, there was a table made from ten-thousand-year-old sandalwood.

A little girl with small horns was napping on the table.

Her snoring was loud, like thunder, with bubbles forming from her nose.

She had short white hair and was sleeping with her head buried in her arms. The atmosphere inside the inn was very quiet.

As Xu Zimo walked closer, the little girl seemed to hear something and slowly lifted her head.

Her eyes were large and full of spirit, her cheeks baby-fat and rosy.

With big black eyes, she looked at Xu Zimo, yawned, and mumbled, “Another guest’s here.”

She turned and shouted into the inn, “Old Sir, there’s a guest!”

Right as she finished speaking, a black-curtained door on the left side of the sandalwood table opened.

A middle-aged man in green robes stepped out. He wore a scholar’s cap and had a very refined aura.

He held a folding fan and had a gentle smile on his face.

“Guest, I trust you know the rules of the Inn of Good and Evil,” the man said with a smile.

“I’ve heard some stories about you, so I came out of curiosity,” Xu Zimo replied with a nod.

“Only the kind dare enter this place. So, are you good or evil?” the man asked, fixing his eyes on Xu Zimo.

“May I ask, what is good? What is evil?” Xu Zimo asked.

“We have our own standards,” the man replied with a smile.

With a wave of his hand, the boiling water above the stove transformed into a stream.

It flowed into a teacup on the table.

The water in the cup separated into two halves, one half was clear, the other murky.

Pointing at the cup, the man said, “Good or evil, one sip will tell.”

Xu Zimo picked up the cup curiously. Seeing nothing unusual, he drank it in one go.

The moment the water entered his body, Xu Zimo’s consciousness paused.

The world before his eyes went black, and it felt like some mysterious force was pulling at his memories, rewinding them.

This rewind played through Xu Zimo’s memories, not only from this life but also from his previous one.

Looking back, Xu Zimo watched scenes from his past.

The failures, the disgrace, and after many trials, how he still faced defeat after defeat under Chu Yang’s blade.

Even now, those memories still stirred bitter feelings in his heart.

Old Sir explained. “This tea is called the Tea of Good and Evil. Anyone who drinks it will have their memories reflected. My standard for good and evil is simple. Those who can face their life with a clear conscience, are good.”

Xu Zimo smiled and quietly sat down in a chair beside him.

“According to the rules, you can choose one evil person to fulfill a wish for you. Once it’s done, they’ll regain their freedom,” Old Sir said.

“An evil person,” Xu Zimo repeated with a soft laugh.

Old Sir nodded. He then waved his right hand, and a mist filled the entire inn.

Xu Zimo’s vision shifted, and he found himself surrounded by fog.

All around him were countless cages.

Each cage held a creature.

Some were human, some from the demon race, and others from various different clans.

Some wore expressions of hatred. Others were sleeping peacefully.
