The Sniper and Rikocchi
The magician stares at me with a puzzled look on her face.
There’s only one person who would call me that.
“Oh, aren’t you Kentaro Senpai? What are you doing in a place like this ?!”
“It’s game time.”
“What are you doing here? Hahaha.”
Riko-chan laughs and sits down on the floor, as if the tension in her body has been released by the laughter.
“Huh… I’m so tired.”
“You were in a tight spot…”
“Yeah, I was taken by surprise. Thank you very much, Senpai, for saving me from a dangerous situation.”
Riko-chan bows her head.
She’s a polite girl, despite her appearance.
“I didn’t even realize you were Riko-chan at first glance. Your hair is lighter than it is in real life, and…”
She’s wearing a fluffy light blue skirt, just like in a fantasy world.
Just her hair and clothes give her a completely different impression.
“Ehehe, Isn’t it cute? I won it in a fashion gacha.”
Riko-chan picks up the hem of her skirt and shows it to me.
I see, even VR games have gacha, right?
Well, the administration isn’t made up of volunteers, so they must have a system to collect money.
It’s a game that seems to be costing players a lot of money.
“Senpai is just like in real life, aren’t you? Are you sure you didn’t play around with the settings when you created the character?”
“It was too troublesome.”
“Haha. It’s just like you.”
Riko-chan is smiling.
I never get tired of watching her rich expressions.
“By the way, Riko-chan.”
“My name is Rikocchi in this world, so please call me that!”
I thought that Riko-chan’s name would remain the same, but I didn’t ask her.
She’s better at naming than me, since I used my real name.
“What is your character name, Senpai?”
Riko-chan’s eyes widen, and then she laughs hysterically.
“It’s just like the usual. It’s too bothersome.”
“It’s easy to tell.”
“Yeah, it is.”
Riko seems to be in a good mood, even though she was in a pinch a while ago.
I don’t know why, but it’s a good thing.
“Riko-chan… Rikocchi is a magician, right?”
“That’s right. I’m improving my ice skills.”
I guess there is also a fire element and a wind element.
Riko pays attention to my sniper rifle.
“Is senpai a sniper by any chance?”
“Eh! That’s not fair.”
“What’s not fair?”
“Because… Senpai, you’re an Olympic bronze medalist in rifle shooting, aren’t you?”
“That was 14 years ago.”
That happened when I was young.
I was a slow learner, but when it came to time-consuming competitions that involved lots of focus, I excelled.
However, it has not received much attention from the public.
No one pays attention to the rifle shooting events.
Shooting is one of the five easiest sports to get tickets for in the Olympics.
It’s an unpopular event and no one comes to see it.
Even so, a gold or silver medal might have attracted some attention, but I won a bronze medal.
Nobody talked about it even at that time, and I even forgot about it myself.
In other words, There is not much to talk about.
“Isn’t it unfair for a shooting medalist to be a sniper?”
“Don’t tell anybody that, okay?”
She seems a little unhappy, but nods.
She’s a good, honest girl.
“Senpai is amazing. You’ve only been playing it for a short while and you’re already involved in PK.”
“Well, I’m more experienced than Senpai.”
It’s true that Riko is a pretty heavy gamer.
She doesn’t seem like the type who would hesitate to PK.
“But then we’d both be in trouble.”
“Yeah. Soldiers in the town will attack you, and you won’t be able to buy anything from the NPC store.”
Riko-chan raises her eyebrows a little… and then claps her hands.
“Senpai, I think you should look at some strategy sites.”
“Because, you’re killing general players, right?”
“How do you know?”
Riko-chan explains it to me.
Apparently, this is how it works.
There are three types of players:
- General players
- PK players
- A PKK player who hunts only PK players
General players are the so-called peaceful players who receive quests from NPCs and hunt monsters, and are the most popular in terms of population.
PK players are the second group of players who hunt other players, both general and PK players. This is where I am.
Lastly, there are PKK players, who only hunt PK players. Riko-chan is this type.
Riko-chan says she’s enforcing justice, but is it just me, or does that sound dangerous?
“So, the important thing is that if you kill a PK player, the NPCs in town won’t hate you.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
What a surprise. So that’s what happened…
It seems that the reason I can’t buy items at the NPC store, or get killed by soldiers with the battle axe, is because I’m killing general players who aren’t PKing.
Would that not happen if they only targeted PK players?
So killing bad guys doesn’t make people in the town hate you, it makes them happy.
“That’s why only PK players are inconvenienced when entering the town. It’s like Kentaro senpai.”
I didn’t know this, and if Riko-chan hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known it in the future.
The strategy sites are scary.
Riko-chan leans forward.
I can almost see a little bit of her cleavage, so I casually look away.
“Why doesn’t Senpai carry out justice with us?”
“Don’t say dangerous things.”
“Well, it’s not dangerous.”
Riko is a member of the PKK guild, so while she kills monsters to earn skill points and money, she also hunts PK players.
Of course, sometimes she kills them and sometimes they kill her, so it seems to be a mutual thing.
“Then, the swordsman who was fighting with you earlier…”
“He’s a friend of mine from the guild. I’ll introduce you next time.”
If I join a guild, I will be able to make more friends and socialize at once.
Hmm, that’s too troublesome.
“But snipers, especially rifles, aren’t suitable for party play, aren’t they?”
“Well, I guess so. It would have been nice if Senpai had a bow, too.”
“I’m more of a solo player, so I’m glad you asked, but not this time.”
Riko-chan seems a little disappointed, but she doesn’t force me.
I guess she knows my personality.
“But, let’s play together next time instead!”
“Let’s play together!”
“Oh, okay, okay, Next time.”
Riko-chan smiles happily.
Well, that’s okay.
She teaches me a lot of things, and it’s bad to be so insensitive.
“But anyway, you shouldn’t kill general players.”
“Hmm… I’ll think about it.”
I don’t want to uphold justice.
I want to enjoy the PK style of play.
It hurts to have to pay every time I enter the town, but I can survive without using the NPC stores, so I’ll endure it.
“If you came across me when PKing… you’d do it, wouldn’t you?”
Riko-chan closes one eye and makes a bang gesture with her finger.
Ho-ho, that’s good.
“Don’t cry when this new sniper hits back hard, okay?”
“Oh, you said it. I’m not gonna let that happen.”
“You’d better practice your crying face.”
We hug each other … and laugh.
Ah. It’s fun, this kind of thing.
So much fun.
Suddenly, there’s a ding! sound.
[Rikocchi has sent you a friend request.]
I look up and see Riko-chan smiling at me.
I choose [Accept].
My friend column increases from zero to one.
“Wow. Thank you, Senpai!”
Riko-chan looks happy.
I’m always happy to have friends.
I’ll buy her lunch some other time.
As I’m thinking about this, I hear the sound of footsteps.
About five men come rushing into the room.
“I found them! I can’t believe they are still hanging out in the same place!”
Riko-chan and I look at each other.
It’s not like this is a safe zone.
Ah, I don’t like the archer who just left with a stupid look on his face!
“Come on, you motherfuckers!”
“Erkkkkkk, HELP SENPAI!”
“Farewell Rikocchi, I will never forget your sacrifice.”
“That’s not fair, Senpai!”
Riko-chan and I died in an instant.
